Looking to get the ferry from Bari in Italy to Patras in Greece before moving onto the islands. Bari - anyone been? Thinking of spending 2-3 days there before getting on board the ferry - is this worth doing? |
I haven't been to Bari, other than the airport, but a place I have been to close to Bari is Matera, the ancient town next to a gorge which was the location for the car chase at the start of the latest Bond film.
The location is spectacular, it has a fascinating history - most of the inhabitants used to live in caves, some of which you can visit - and I believe you can get to it from Bari on the train in 2-3 hours. On a clear evening, the moment when the street lights all come on together is magical. |  |

Cefalu is great. Laid back coastal scene, some great bars and eating and good swimming. If you go in the other direction towards Trapani...Scopello is one beautiful place, with the most magical swimming from the old disused tuna fishery building (it's now super cool with bars etc). |  |

We went to Kefalonia for ours last year (our favourite island), but thought we'd have a change this year & are going to it's neighbour. Zante had a lot to live up to!

Matera is the home town of our own Luigi De Canio. Though he played more than 200 times for them, they are about the only club in Italy he never managed. | | | |

went to kefalonia for my 50th birthday, stayed at a loveley little port called sami.
used to walk over a lovely coastal mountain range, well, big hills, to a secluded beach, used to take about an hour, passing a sea view mansion that they put nicholas cage in when filming captain correllis mandelin.
every time i've been to zante always avoided lagonas, being an old git, prefering to stay a mile down the coast at a place called kalamaki, beautiful beaches and the sea lovely to swim in.
watch for the places on the sand where the turtles lay their eggs though...
the locals are pretty defensive of that.
if your not hiring a car, get one of the tour buses that takes you round the island...worth a days trip.

About 5.00 pm today I was sat In the garden watching the birds feeding and using the bird boxes whilst having a quite cuppa In the sunshine perfect silence, peace and quite in the best Country in this whole goddam world.
I've been to a pile of countries In my life time from Bangladesh to Australia, from Libya to Cyprus various road trips to the USA, the point I'm making albeit badly Is this Country we live In Is the without doubt the best Country In the World, being sat on a plane for 12 odd hours and flying over Holland and seeing the Image of the UK appearing on the map Is a sight for sore eyes.
We went back to Cornwall last June where It rained at least once a day, we booked Seven nights and came home after Five of them. (LOL etcetera) |  |

Cornwall/Devon is such a lottery. It’s so beautiful. But you could book a week in June/July/August, it could rain every day or it could be glorious sunshine. I never mind it if it rained because the scenery was beautiful. Since moving to Texas, it’s a Culture Shock because everything is flat and repetitive, there is nothing as beautiful as England, and I tell people here that. And they try and tell me to visit all these lakes here, but they are man-made.. there’s no place like home | |

My youngest cousin's getting married in Malta so off there in six weeks for an Irish family wedding. Never been to Malta so really looking forward to it. It's mine and Mrs Camberley's 11th wedding anniversary on the Saturday following the wedding so we're turning it into a mini break.

Whilst there we're going over to Marthas Vineyard where we're doing a tour of all the Jaws film locations (best film ever made). The tour is hosted by the 'Kintner kid', the boy on the yellow lilo who got mangled early doors, he's in his 60's now!

I did my PADI qualification on the great barrier reef in 1993 where there were black tipped reef sharks and I made sure I kept at least three other divers between me and them at all times, I'm a natural born coward. Off to Hope Cove in Devon too in a couple of weeks for my mother in laws 80th birthday. A hidden treasure. Just the seals and basking sharks to worry about there. | | | |
