Fair enough and point well made.
Good to see another Clash fan on here. Second only to New Order/JD as my favourite band. Sadly, I never got to see The Clash. They played at the Croydon Greyhound but you had to be 16 to get in and I was around 13 at the time. |
First time I went to the Croydon Greyhound I was about 14. Hawkwind were playing and I fainted. Not sure if it was down to a dodgy burger, the strobe lighting or the sudden appearance of Stacia midway through Master of the Universe. Probably a combination of all three.
I did have a Clash phase a few years later. Was at The Rainbow (I think) when most of the seats were ripped from their moorings and passed down to the front for some reason.
As an aside, got to know the photographer Pennie Smith a bit during my cab-driving days (she took the famous pic of Paul Simonon featured in your avatar, CaptJack, as you’ll no doubt be well aware). She had a wonderful little bookshop in a disused train station near Osterley Park. Don’t know if it’s still going, hope so. | | | |

I used to work for the Keith Prowse ticket agency.
About 4pm most days, the manager would come in and exclaim “unsolds, unsolds” and you could go free to an event that evening.
I saw some plays and music, but never any rock/pop or jazz.
One evening the wife and I had box seats at the Albert Hall. The orchestra performed Edward Elgar's overture “In London Town”. At the end a chap on the other side of the box leaned over and said “that was a lively piece !”
