I do like a bit of bossa nova, though it can be guilty of not leaving the comfort zone during a track. If I am going to go Brazilian then I'd probably plump for Grupo Revelecao. Much prefer salsa though.

Sandinista is an unusual choice for this thread. I love The Clash and the best tracks from that album would make a fantastic album, but there is a good few duds on there as well imo.

Agreed he certainly likes to vary his phrasing on a few of his songs (which makes singing along tricky!) but at the age of 71 his voice is as strong as ever and his backing group was superb. All in all was a great night, really pleased I went.
I'm a bit of a Costello fanatic and I went to 3 gigs in 8 days. Birmingham Symphony Hall, Shepherds Bush Empire & Liverpool Olympia. More than 40 different songs played over those 3 nights. Shepherds Bush was definitely the best atmosphere of the 3, closely followed by Liverpool. I wish he'd play more gigs in standing venues, he always seems to play a great show when he does.
Agree that the backing group are superb but not sure that his voice is as strong as ever. In terms of his live singing, he was decent in the 80s, spectacularly good in the 90s & early 2000s. But some recent health issues have definitely affected him quite a bit post-covid. And as you say he sings "behind" the beat a lot of the time, which I've got used to now but I found quite weird when he started doing that after his first cancer episode.
Weirdly for a singer, he seems to particularly struggle with the slower gentler songs & as the tour has gone on thankfully he's gradually played less and less of those.
Interested to see that there were so many of us LFWers at that gig. Maybe we should all wear the hoops to gigs so we can spot each other.

Also saw them at Hammersmith. Would have been 1987? One of the best live acts I've seen ever. It is a great live album. That could be another thread/topic. Best live albums, might have been done before. For me its James Brown Live at the Apollo.
James Brown Live at the Apollo, absolute 'kin belter! Bought it in 1991 in a record store in a part of Boston where it would be fair to say, I wasn't initially welcomed by the brothers.
Later that year on 4 July, I saw JB at Wembley Arena. He came out to 'Living in America' after a 15 minute intro, featuring all sorts of Americana imagery on stage, and dressed accordingly! Reaching the mic at just the point he was supposed to sing. What a backing band, too!!

Stop Making Sense is elite. The way it builds, the quality of the songs, the excellent extra players (the funk guitarist in particular).
I'm currently listening to the new album by Sans Froid 'Back to the Womb' and it might be a contender. They're so good.

Fleetwood Mac (post Peter Green) are so hyped up and overplayed, I try and give them a wide birth. Queen and Led Zeppelin fall into that category too. I do like and respect the musicians but ........bored with hearing most of their stuff.
I got the instructor at the gym cycling class (spinning lite) to include Highway Star by Deep Purple on Thursdays. Hadn't heard it much recently but after about ten weeks, I'm getting a little tired off it.
As you might imagine, I've got a very large music collection in different formats so nothing gets played very often.

Interesting to hear how he has evolved. The only time I saw him live was in 1980.
