James Brown Live at the Apollo, absolute 'kin belter! Bought it in 1991 in a record store in a part of Boston where it would be fair to say, I wasn't initially welcomed by the brothers.
Later that year on 4 July, I saw JB at Wembley Arena. He came out to 'Living in America' after a 15 minute intro, featuring all sorts of Americana imagery on stage, and dressed accordingly! Reaching the mic at just the point he was supposed to sing. What a backing band, too!!

DSotM, Pink Floyd, ruined for me by the wailing banshee on Great Gig in the Sky, but I get why others rate it highly. But you need to be stoned to appreciate it fully.

Not really. I also love The Clash - have done since I first saw them in 1977 and saw them many times afterwards. I love all their albums, but Sandinista is the album that demonstrated the move from their raw first album, through Give em enough (my least favourite) through London Calling and then the progression to reflect all their many influences on Sandinista. IMO, its their most accomplished album that resonates with me on many levels. I Can listen to it back to front and front to back without skipping. Its all about personal preference - and for me, this is the one.

Now, the Damned. Yes to Brian James, but he didn’t exactly excel once he left, yet they progressed from Punk to Gothic and had chart success. They reunited a couple of years ago, which was nice, and brought Rat back into the frey. I saw them at Wembley a couple of months ago and I think they are on their last legs with this Final Damnation tour. Fair play, thanks for the memories and put yer feet up, it’s time.

Full disclosure. I did that Damned reunion tour looking after Brian. I also did the original Damned reunion show at The T&C in 83/84 or whenever. I worked with Lords of the new Church for 4/5 years on and off. So I'm Slightly biased, but Brian's songs still stand up, still Damned's best songs. I get the thoughts on London Calling - its a seminal album. Sandinista feels more personal to me, understand your point about the kids singing etc (Micky Gallagher's son Ben BTW) but its those flaws that make it stand out for me. Sandinista does make me wonder what The Clash might have become, had they stayed together - because the BAD stuff is/was excellent too....

Agree, Agree, Agree. I’m aware Micky G’s (a 5th member by then) boy was singing, but did they really need to do Career Opportunities again. Also, the backward track (Mensforth Hill ? Could be wrong) & Shepherds Delight ?? Good shout about what next, but I love Combat Rock so there’s some clues. Originally going to be a double I think ? Rat Patrol /Fort Worth ?? Straight to Hell is sublime.
And Yes, B.A.D, great 1st album, ahead of their time, which I suggested earlier in this thread.

I grew tired of some of my LPs, so took them down to the railway line at the bottom of my garden and laid them on the track thinking the 9.47 from Basingstoke would smash them to smithereens, but someone swiped them. So 2 great tracks, no bad albums..

"Badmotorfinger. Soundgarden". Great shout, I also picked that as one of my three. So much variety on one album and every track is excellent, plus they have their own, distinctive style. All killer, no filler, one might say.
"The real thing" is also a brilliant choice, so original and so powerful . It's the first CD I ever bought, a propos of nothing .

Track 5, side 6 of Sandinista is a VERY bad track indeed. In fairness to those kids, the album had gone to pot well before they pipe up.

Good to see another Clash fan on here. Second only to New Order/JD as my favourite band. Sadly, I never got to see The Clash. They played at the Croydon Greyhound but you had to be 16 to get in and I was around 13 at the time.

Their reggae stuff was brilliant I thought. The b side of the 12 of London Calling had the brilliant Armagideon Time on it. Sadly that full version is not on Spotify but here is another list of their reggae stuff I put together.
Seeing SOAD at Spurs next week, I've been going through the back catalogue and I'd completely forgotten the feeling of hearing Toxicity the first time. Listened to it – went straight back and listened again, and then a third time.
