I went to bed at 10 past midnight once they’d announced an hour’s delay,and I set the alarm on my phone for 7am to watch the full replay.I woke up at 4am and checked the time on the phone and the same headline came up when I opened it.

I've been caught out like this before so just ignored my phone (other than to turn the alarm off) and watched the game this morning. First half before the school drop-off, second half when I got home.
Fate was trying to tell me the result..... my son said "it was close" but didn't say any more as I quickly remarked "don't tell me the score or who won, I don't want to know". Thing is, he was not upbeat when he said it so straight away that put doubt in my mind.
Doing the school drop off I managed to avoid talking to the parents I normally talk to in case they spilled the beans. Then on the way home I saw a parent with an England shirt on so that got me thinking too "have we won, or did we lose and they're still be supportive?"

I did the same thing. Good job too because I think I went through the broadcast, the weather, the news and some other programme trying to watch the whole match this morning at 7am. Even then it somehow jumped from the 87th minute to the post-match interviews.
Really enjoyed it.
Mexico were nasty little shithouses, so I'm glad we beat them. Their crowd was insanely loud though. Great support.

I set the TV to BBC2 last night before I went to bed to avoid this very issue.

I went to bed first for a few hours then looked at the phone to see if there was a delay amd got an extra hour in. Hardly slept after the game though, as my nerves were shredded.
Im a big NFL fan, but if the Cowboys play aa the evening game in the US (which they do a lot), i try to make do with highlights off you tube. Trouble is the picture they use usually gives away the result, as its normally a still ofthe MVP or the key play. i try to cover my phone as a result until the video starts. |  |

I put my phone on airplane and got up for the replay, managed to totally avoid it and watch it without spoilers.
However, I have a little betting syndicate and we had a 66/1 bet builder that had Rice yellow card in it. When he got booked in the first minute the urge to turn on the phone was overwhelming.

Schoolboy error with the phones, you have to keep them off. I used to get notifications of QPR goals which came through a good 30 seconds before the stream caught up during lockdown.
I stayed up, years of watching Boxing and Wrestling through the night paid off finally.
Such a good game and was on such a high and was quite pissed so I couldn't get to sleep afterwards and powered through, I'd booked the morning off work so cancelled that thinking I could cruise through the day just watching clips of England and then got announced ITV were being bought by Sky so had to quickly sober up and look awake during a long day of meetings. Great night though, can't wait till Saturday |  | | |
