That was quite an unusual game but a lovely win nonetheless. I won't repeat what many others have said but give a few observations I've not seen others make.
I don't understand Stephan's thinking in playing Edwards as the DCM. He was okay, although he could have received two yellows. I see no need for him to be played there except in extremis.
Burrell had a quiet game but didn't have much to feed off. Dunne kept getting needlessly caught on the ball, which I've not seen before.
I was wondering where the slick passing had disappeared to until we scored. From there we found our feet and started to dictate play. I want to see us play like that from the first whistle to dominate possession. We still haven't won a game with more of the ball for however long it is.

Personally I was pleased that we started Edwards rather than Varane today, a more solid and reliable option for me.
Varane, like all the subs, did well when he came on and then Ronnie covered at right back.

Rangers fans were very noisy. Well Done! I could hear you from down under.
Pompey fans were much quieter once we banged three in.
Yet again, I lost faith. It wavered in the face of a shocking first 25 minutes and a belief that there is a soft underbelly in this team.
But I must remember that there is one with a stomach so strong that it can weather the greatest of storms. One who can always be relied upon to achieve a result when all other options have failed. I must beg repentance in the face of such majesty.

Great interview thanks for sharing. I think Julien seems to be taking each game a lot more seriously this season. This is encouraging. Looking forward to see what we do against Bolton next weekend.

A wonderful start to the season. We started both halves slowly but then looked the better team after that.
We shall celebrate this win but let's not get carried away as Portsmouth were poor. They scored a worldie but didn't cause us too many problems after that, we caused ourselves a few problems!
As the Scots guy kept saying on Sky this was a professional performance. We shall play a fair few Portsmouth's this season and we need to be consistent.
A few negatives, the slow starts to each half, the injuries to Boy and Koki. Would have liked one of our second half attacks to have produced a fourth goal.
The positives, how long have you got? A great team performance, all the subs did well, I mean well, Illias made it over to the right side of the pitch several times, JCS lasted the whole game. We could go on and on and on.
Our quiet pre season optimism received a further boost today.
Of course the acid test will still be if LBlock now believes we could swerve relegation.

Good start, nice win. And without Madsen. And with Kone unused. OK, Portsmouth aren't the strongest but nice to bank an away win on day 1. I thought Burrell brought the MF in well, especially for the goals.
Last 15 mins I thought we dropped too deep and they had half chances. Overall, decent start and room to improve.
