Nothing has happened to Kone. I have a lot of time for Kone but he isn't very good really, lucky to be playing Championship football, bit like Kelman whom many on this MB wanted to give him chance after chance!!!......Kone has scored a couple of decent goal, though.

He will be fine because he's shown he's very very useful at this level.

Think the difference between his best and worst games was huge. Definitely some where he seemed sharp in the box and fired up for the fights with centre-halves but others more like this season’s small sample size. You don’t score the variety of goals he did without having something about you.

I'm not sure what it is about Nix's comments you disagree with, but Kone did run himself into the ground last season for QPR, especially after Burrell got injured and Kolli has never run as much or for as long in a match as the former.
I like Kolli and want him integrated back into the matchday squad, but there is a clear difference between the 2 of them.
Hopefully Kone will get a rest and some good treatment for his injury so that he can get back to playing as he did last season.
In the meantime Lloyd, Kolli and the elusive Obikwu need to step up and play and score goals.

I'm just worried that with Kone out of sorts, Kolli god knows where, the new guy whose been here so long yet I dont know his name yet because he never plays, we are relying soley on Burrel and Lloyd. If Burrell gets injured we are seriously fked. And it looks like he will have to play the vast majority of games. Concerning.
It is concerning even more so that QPR didn't bring in another striker if Kolli is going to be overlooked. It's not even as if there is a decent DS striker to be elevated to the 1st team squad (as Kolli and Lloyd were a couple of seasons ago).

Stephan’s comments explicitly allude to his “level”. He’s not at the level, and “he’s the first one to recognise that”.
Not sure how you make the big leap and interpret that something else is going on. Could be a multitude of reasons of course, but in football, players fall in and out of form all the time.
The bigger question for me is whether this is a form or ability question. Because Kones poor form is not just this season, it was at seen frequently at stages throughout all of last season. Which is why I don’t think it’s poor form, it’s more so he’s struggling with the level. Either way, still early days, and he’s got time and age on his side and is a useful option up top.

He has obviously lost what confidence he had, he is basically a very limited football technically wise, he lacks pace......makes it very tough to play well at this level of football. He has many assets though that should not be overlooked, pretty sure Championship level is going to be very difficult for him.

I agree. Remembering when Jimmy Dunne had a bit of a fallow period and then we found out his dad had been dying. It’s bound to affect you.
I hope everything is okay with him. He certainly looked gutted when he came off the pitch. (I was in the Paddocks and saw how he looked). I think he wants to play his best but for whatever reason it’s not happening for him. After his massive efforts last season when at times he seemed the only fit striker and kept ploughing on even when he had a knock I think we should cut him some slack.
I’ve said before that Stephan very rarely talks about individual players, if he’s doing so it means there’s a reason. I hope the fans get behind him.

Kone has been training this week and can be seen around the 30 second mark in Stephan's Charlton preview, so could well be in the squad tonight:
Something is definitely not right with him so far this season though, may be that he's playing within himself if he thinks there's an underlying problem in his knee and it could go at any point. Wouldn't trust our Medical/Performance team to spot it if there was, but that should really be managed properly if so as it's costing us and his confidence by him playing so poorly. He also just doesn't look fit and his body language has been a concern, makes a farce of Kolli being kept behind from the pre season tour to work on his "physical and athletic development" but Kone is being afforded minutes whilst being way off the pace....!
Also, Stephan's comments to WLS can be interpreted many ways but if he is alluding to some mental or off the field problems than I hope he can get the support he needs there.

Most of us think he did well last season, especially as it was his first at this level. His good games definitely outnumbered the bad games which all players will have. Looks like a mix of loss of confidence, poor fitness and minor injuries to me: all of which can be worked on and improved. But you seem to think he’s lost his ability or probably never had it.

Missed this before my previous post but completely agree on the last paragraph. He has struggled to maintain a consistent level of performance since joining, yes he hit the ground running, yes he scored 10 goals but there were plenty of games he was way below the level in as well.
I will say the Club mismanaged his minutes last season, it seemed like they just decided he was the crown jewel and he had to play because of the investment made in him and to drive up his value to sell. Regardless of the injuries we had he shouldn't have been ran in to the ground like he was.
For balance, no Footballers development is completely linear, Kone wasn't academy trained and has been fast tracked up the Leagues since playing in England. I'm certain he's been asked to do things at QPR he never had to think about in non league and at Wycombe where he could play more freely and instinctively. However, he really has to sharpen up on the basic CF play, pinning his Defender and controlling and passing the ball to a team mate, it sounds rudimentary but those are the things he really fails at doing and makes him look like an average player.
