Barton was a good footballer and I thought the season we won promotion he played well for us. But he wasn't so good that it was worth all the baggage.
His violent behaviour is unacceptable. He seem's incapable or unwilling to deal with it and will have to face the consequence of his actions.

The down vote was for the good footballer part.
For context, this was a Championship team full of players on Premier League wages.
Barton was at best an average Championship level player who couldn't take a corner or free kick if his life depended on it...
The only thing positive Barton did was to bring in the sports psychologist after the team tried to avoid finishing in the playoffs, with again, the most expensively assembled Championship team the world has ever seen... |  | | |

It may seem that way when we are not privvy to the reasons why the Judge made the decision.
But, Barton is currently serving a suspended sentence for another offense and does have a long history of violence. Both valid reasons for suspecting he may re-offend. |

This is the criminal justice system in this country - creaking through under investment, court buildings falling apart or closed altogether, widespread shut downs of local magistrate courts. If you get charged today you'll be lucky to see a judge before this time in 2028. Then if you're found guilty, we've nowhere to put you really.
Another part of the country that's failing/falling apart, but the only coverage it ever gets is the "early release scheme".
We've underinvested and built nothing for too long. No new prisons, no new reservoirs, two and a half new railways, and it'll all come back to chew us on the ars over the next 20 years - particularly the water infrastructure. That's going to be the big issue of the next decade I reckon.

Played approaching 100 games for the R's, many as the Captain, many with experienced professional footballers in the same side, taking most dead ball kicks, leading mostly by example. Not only that he played many games for Newcastle, Man City, Glasgow Rangers & others ........ mostly in the top division. You do not do that if you are a 'crap player'. |
