Cricket: I used to play at a reasonably high level but my batting career peaked with my first ever ball: I hit it out of the ground! For balance, I should add that my spin bowling has been carted all over the place . Cycling: Back in the day, I cycled up some of the big passes unsupported, so I love it when the Grand Tours go into the mountains.

I have most admiration for the top tennis players but I don't really watch it when it's on. Any free time I have is taken up running my Sunday morning football team, reading and learning salsa dancing.

Yet to really warm up for Rugby - support Ireland and Leinster but there's a long year ahead. Enjoy darts apart from the two Lukes - but that's pretty universal, I think

Always fancied having a go at salsa dancing. Had a couple of lessons a few years ago but just couldn’t get the hang of it. It was two steps forward three steps back.

Have to be content with the highlights these days. Loved boxing in the 70’s (the Ali, Foreman, Frazier years in particular - When We Were Kings summed up that era for me) but not so bothered since everything became pay-per-view. I’ve got grainy black and white memories from the 60’s too (my great uncle Stan was timekeeper at the first Henry Cooper v Cassius Clay fight at Wembley in 1963). As for actual participation, I still enjoy racketball (squash for old people), lawn tennis and my current obsession Real tennis (an ancient, and rather ‘niche’, racket sport from which all the others evolved). I’m currently engaged in a bit of a ‘court-hopping’ (there are about 25 active ones in the UK, 50 worldwide) and have so far managed to tick off Cambridge University, Newmarket, Hatfield House and Petworth House as well as my ‘home’ court at Hampton Court Palace. I’m hoping to find some more clubs that tie in with QPR away games in due course (managed it a couple of years ago when we played Cambridge United in the League Cup).

I really miss cricket. It's one of the things I miss most about England. Used to love TMS, The Telegraph's coverage, reading all the scorecards about players I knew nothing about. I always fantasise that one day I'll have the time to get back into it. I still won't know any of the players, but that's not the point really, is it?
