I watched Millwall Palace earlier and what was noticeable was how basic the Millwall defenders were. They did the basics reasonably well but a long way off the way our back 3 are capable of playing out or carrying the ball out of defence. We've got used to it over the last year or so but I reckon our back 3 must be one of the most accomplished in the championship in terms of actually being decent footballers. We'd be in trouble if we sold Dickie and Barbet doesn't sign a new deal.

I agree. He is a physical force back there. Once de Wijs comes back we will have a very physical and tough back three with Dickie.

Dunne. on 10:52 - Jan 9 with 2164 views | CliveWilsonSaid | He's been impressive from day one and is now adding runs into midfield and a full range of passing to his game. I do wonder how difficult the middle of a 3 man defence is in this side, with 2 in front, 1 either side (plus wing backs) and Seny behind. Perhaps it's a well protected position that makes players look good but apart from blistering pace he seems to have it all. Looks a great character too, determined to succeed. I'd be a bit wary of comparing the role Dickie has to play, to the one Dunne has. Dickie has to cover a lot more defensively in my view as Adomah, although doing an excellent job as a makeshift right wingback, is not a recognised defender. Also we get less cover on the right side as we tend to be focussed more down our left hand side, so Adomah is often left on his own and Dickie has quite a lot more to cover. Having said that, Dunne is an excellent acquisition and very comfortable on the ball, which was evident from day one.

Agree with all of that. Plus that central role is nearly always a man-marking job as opposed to the wide centre-backs who tend to mark space and runs. Different gigs.

When asked what his targets were for the season he just said 'promotion' You could tell he meant business. One thing I noticed is that he is actually quicker than I realised too. Sometimes my concern with Dickie is that I think he sometimes tries to do too much when he is on the ball. Sometimes runs down blind alleys or across the pitch and either gets tackled and then is out of position or has a heavy touch and loses the ball. Sometime feels like he needs to make the run, create the space and then move the ball on and get back into position.

I am almost embarrased to type this but ROI actually look decent at the back right now and have a couple of excellent keepers thankfully .Of course the Irish Rs would love to see Dunne continue his fine play and get called up to get his feet wet. I was a little surprised and nervous to see him walk up to that penalty Saturday but what a pile driver loved it fair play

I wasn't nervous one bit , he knew he would score and that's why I like him.

Yeah, it was quality that pen. If you smash it on target, even if its not in the corners, sometimes the keeper still cannot keep it out.
