The trouble is that these senior police officers are more like politicians than people who serve us. It's all about protecting the reputation of the organisation rather than making it fit for purpose. The scandal of Hillsborough where senior police officers tried to cover up police failings just caused massively greater pain for the poor bereaved families. Cressida Dick has similarly been involved with minimising serious police failings. For example, with Charles de Menezes, when she was in charge of the whole operation; with the Sarah Everard case and the subsequent over-zealousness with the vigil; the initial failure to investigate parties in Downing Street. It's all about politics and not about accountability. It's all about mealy-mouthed suggestions that 'lessons will be learned' and not about actually changing the culture in which these things are allowed to take place. |  | | |
