| More Peterborough pain turns the natives restless - Report on 18:13 - Mar 21 with 3974 views | daveB | The last 20 minutes we switched to a back 4 with Adomah and Thomas wide and Chair in the middle off Austin, that then switched to a 4-4-2 when Dunne went up front. I found that even more ridiculous than the subs. I felt sorry for the 3 coming on, didn't think any of them were that bad but felt the wrath of everyone as things didn't get any better. No way should Gray or Amos have been the ones taken off, I got the Dozzell one but not the other 2. For me the switch to a 3 man central midfield in February has been a big part of the problem, balance has been all wrong and we've become too defensive and left the forwards isolated feeding off crumbs. One shot on target yesterday same as on Wednesday is nowhere near good enough. I do think though when you look back over the season we have been nowhere near our best all the way through rarely putting a full 90 minutes together. Boro away and Reading & West Brom at home the only times imo. When you look at how lucky we were in a number of wins in December/January that luck was never going to last and these tight games we nicked in January went the other way at Blackburn and Forest. This is an honest group of players who i hope don't fall apart even more in the next 8 games but it's a big few weeks for them and the manager. Regardless of making the playoffs or not they need to finish the season well. | | | |
| More Peterborough pain turns the natives restless - Report on 18:47 - Mar 21 with 3828 views | Greenbay | Your 'questions' Clive are absolutely spot on. Your obvious passion shines through. The loanees in January 2021 were brilliant. The loanees this year have been a disaster. It's disrupted everything. The management will surely learn from their mistakes. So a good strong finish to the season is very important. We've got two weeks to refresh. Did we expect the smoothest of runs to end the season? Not really if we are being realistic. But year on year improvement is necessary. And that's what we're doing - before those final 8 games. | | | |

Agreed. Overall we have been a lot better this season but to lose the plot with matches that should have put us on the brink already is a bitter pill to swallow. If it ain't broke don't fix it keeps screaming in my head re the loanees in.

Last week I said to my wife that you’d grown up and where I was expecting your report to keep me boiling, you offered calm, reason and common sense. Well thank f*ck that Angry Clive is still around because after that performance the team deserve every bit of criticism they get. Your report sums up the mood perfectly.

Yeh we've never really got into top gear all season. We've had magic moments and results but I've always been under the impression that there was more to come from this team. Unfortunately its gone the other way. The club is nowhere near ready for the Premier league and no one expected it this season anyway but this team needs to finish on a high. We've all loved this season up to now so would be a massive shame to just give up now. An excellent report that conveys our frustrations with our current situation. The owners have been great in recent times. Completely staying out of the way and letting the football people do the football. Have they been getting involved more and putting the pressure on Warburton since the smell of Premier league money been wafting around.?. I havnt seen that particular online conspiracy question yet so just throwing that one in.

Another vote here for that move Ted.The players did not respond when the season was dying before our eyes so they deserve a jolt.I dont care if its the system you have to play to the situation and it was dire.Imagine if we tied it up at 3-3 the stadium would have been moving literally but they imploded instead. Clive once again was magnificent in this writing ,being angry and disappointed yet trying to seek answers we all are looking for. Maybe this is our rock bottom so the only way is up .Lets hold off on the torches for a few weeks

It's really difficult to pinpoint any one major reason why the form has fallen off a cliff. It appears that a combination of factors have contributed to the slump, which is concerning as it will take some turnaround to correct them all and salvage a play-off spot. Still, it's the hope that kills you.

For me there are an increasingly large amount of unexplained 'weird things', perhaps 95% of which have logical answers but we've not been told that well enough or adequately and so into the vacuum is stepping rumour, innuendo, conspiracy and frustration. Dykes, Barbet, Sanderson, Hendrick, Austin, Johansen, De Wijs all have elements of weirdness about them atm, and yet we're told every week it's a fully fit squad and no problem.

Add in the subs/tactics and it makes it even weirder. V Cardiff and Peterboro we do the right things first half and then seem to decide to do the complete opposite second half.

I do think part of the Austin/Dykes thing was then both having covid and the club not wanting to make that public, their wives social media gave that away though. Warburton has been saying for a few weeks now that Dykes injury has been worse than first feared and he only returned to training last week

Unless Dykes won the contract to build the Bar round Austin's house when Mrs Austin tweeted asking for recommendations for someone to build them a home bar? Side hussles + 2nd jobs seem all the go at Rangers so you can't knock the lad!

| More Peterborough pain turns the natives restless - Report on 11:04 - Mar 22 with 2281 views | terryb | I can't answer any of your questuions Clive, but I might be able to add to them! I remain firmly in the pro Warburton camp, but I struggle to understand a lot of his recent decisions. Last Wednesday, I thought we played better than in any match since November. Imagine my surprise then, when we made five changes to our back six. Three different players & two positional. This is possibly the most crucial area of the team & had been thourghly dismantled. Barbet not playing was bad enough in itself (and inexplicable), but to play the three centre halves in the same positions that failed at Peterborough bordered on "repeating the same mistakes is madness". Added to this I thought Albert looked spent, which may be unsurprising. Is there unrest in the playing squad? I wouldn't know, but It is easy to reach that perception as we see more & more disagreements between players on the pitch. The look from Dunne towards Dickie when the equaliser was scored was scornful at the least. I assumed he thought Dickie should have made a better header, but it might have been a joint reaction to Sanderson being so easily turned. Incidently, from roughly the same amount of game time, Masterson has made fewer mistakes in the side than Sanderson has! All of last year MW stated that he liked a smaller squad as otherwise it is harder to keep players happy. Well, we are now at our maximum of twenty five & it looks like the players that are not in the starting eleven no longer have the same "we're all in this together" as they did prior to the January signings. IMO, this is not the fault of Sanderson or Hendrick, but as a consequence of their signings. Another question I would like to know is - What is Hendrick's best position? I can only recall him playing on the right of a midfield three or narrow right sided in a four. Our playing style doesn't allow for either of these to be used, therefore I think he is struggling to understand what his role in the team is. Much the same as I am! I've no idea how we get out of this current problem, but I can't see it changing overnight. | | | |

I think if Scotland insist that he joins the squad, we have to release him. They can then make their own assessment to see if they think he is fit. I believe it's part of the rules around international call ups.

To keep the Scotland squad together. They were due to play Ukraine and he wants to keep the squad together. With no future date for Ukraine, he wouldn't have them together again until June. I'd be stunned if Dykes was named in the team or subs. If he is, then it's worth asking what's going on.

| More Peterborough pain turns the natives restless - Report on 17:33 - Mar 22 with 1750 views | WatfordR | It does seem to me that something has not been right since Hendrick and Sanderson came in, and I'm not sure that can necessarily be down to those two players themselves. As I recall, there were very few negative comments about Sanderson in particular once he was known to be incoming. However, I did notice the night of the Middlesbrough game, where both were subs, that at half time when the subs came out fort their usual warm up, they were left on their own kicking balls to each other, which at the time struck me as a little odd. My feeling was that each would be good cover, but that neither should consider themselves as likely starters other than in the event of injury/suspension/whatever. Shoehorning them in, changing formation and other player's positions to do so, really just felt wrong imo, and is as likely as anything to put noses out of joint amongst what has without doubt been a close knit group of players. My gut feeling is that there is something odd about Dykes not being available, and I'm not sure if I understand where Johansen is/was on Sunday, given that all we were hearing about was an almost fully fit squad in the run up. Even if we are not to make the play offs, I feel we're going to need some evidence of squad cohesion over the remaining games if MW isn't going to run into trouble. | | | |

That's modern professional football, sadly - it's a flimflam machine, and we, the fans. are mostly treated like idiots or mugs. Clive is a spirited, special writer in our crazy church, but, seriously, he's on a hiding to nothing. [Post edited 22 Mar 2022 22:25]
