Fabrizio Romano can't get enough of us at the moment. An actual left back too!

Mentions Bristol City bid 650k for him previously. Think this would be a free.

From no left back to 3. Cox, Cochrane, now Paal.

We probably wont get any of them.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Paal's contract at PEC Zwolle at an end. PEC Zwolle were relegated from the Eredivisie last season.

To get a UK work permit overseas players have to accumulate sufficient points using various criteria such as international appearances, first team appearances, division played in etc.

Bloody difficult. For Championship clubs.

Points for playing top EU leagues.
Points for multiple international appearances. More if country is in top 50 in world rankings.
Championship level players unlikely to get enough Points to qualify.
Cox OK as he is British.

Paal played 58 times for Zwolle who were relegated from Eredivisie. No international appearances. Eredivisie was Band 2 for GBE calls.

I make it he gets max 12 points, but needs15 to get a visa.

If Bristol City and Barnsley were interested then there should be a way of getting a WP (if true).

Not necessarily ; they may have given up after trying...

Can't I just adopt him to make him British?

Can we go out yet?

I am intrigued by this one, because I also cannot see how he would get a working permit. He is of Surinamese descent. I thought well maybe he had international caps for them. I our Dutch media I found some stuff saying he might play for them, but if he ever did, I don't know.

Might have a parent or grand-parent with a British pasport.

EDIT: found an article from May stating he was taken up into the Suriname squad for the CONCACAF Nations league, but don't see his name on the team sheets of the games played so far.

According to Wiki, he only played 5 times for PSV, so maybe they spotted a mongrel ?
Played 88 times for Jong PSV (Juniors??)

Then again Wiki also says current club is …… Us !

Yep, Jong PSV is the equivalent of our U23's.

PSV, along with Ajax, AZ Alkmaar and FC Utrecht have their "Jongs" teams in the "Eerste Divisie", 2nd tier. In British terms, that is the Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd youth teams playing in the championship.

In fact, just a couple of years ago, Jong Ajax won it. But the "Jong" teams are, of course, not eligible for promotion to the top flight.

Coventry signed Gustavo Hamer from the same club two seasons ago. An uncapped Brazilian who became a Dutch national. He has since made 81 appearances for Coventry. So there could be a way.

By my understanding, its not just international appearances that are involved with work permits but also the quality of the league and game time. Players need 15 points for a work permit - Paal plays in a band 2 league (Eredivise) which gets him 10 points and has also played a large percentage of games the last couple of seasons which would get him plenty more points. It only becomes an issue once we get to smaller leagues then players go out of reach unless they are internationals or have played in European competition recently

This won't be an issue, played in the Dutch top flight for 4 seasons and a regular during that period

If his only qualification is the number of games he played for Zwolle in Eredivisie (band 2), then I don't think he gets more than 12 points out of 15.

If I've missed something let us know.

He’s been linked with other clubs over here before too. I was reading something about Celtic and Barnsley so I guess he must qualify.
