Great report, Clive. You're far more reasoned than the likes of me. Yes, I do think what happens behind the scenes is the most interesting aspect remaining this season. The wunderkind must be starting to worry a little - lots of money spent and still a mess of a football club. I see the usual 'Nourry's cooking' accounts are reassuring everyone to trust the process. As you say, the crowd is starting to turn again and if the rest of this season plays out in the fashion of the last two matches, it could get very interesting.

Same people who said we got £2.5m for Sinclair Armstrong?
Same people out and about last week telling everybody the accounts made for brilliant reading?

First time I'd heard booing during the game in a long long time, though I don't think it's aimed at the coach. The ironic cheers on 65 minutes, I think, when Morgan finally made a crunching tackle summed it up.

I like JS and think it would be a backwards step, yet again, if he was to leave at the end of the season. Just give the bloke the tools, namely fit players, to do his job, and he might just move us up the table.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

Very Churchillian - give us the tools and we'll finish the job.

I love seeing Leicester lose…. So it turns out that place is a shit show and it wasn’t all Marti’s fault after all. God I wish we still had that guy in charge for us.

I agree Clive that JS is managing with his arm tied firmly behind his back, and the level of professionalism from the players yesterday was pretty disgraceful, but also JS’s performance was poor too. Cracks certainly appearing.

Things don’t happen in isolation. From where I sit in UP there seemed to be strong disagreement between several of the players from very early on. It was like they didn’t agree with the selection, personnel and tactics.

Surely JS isn’t being told to pick Esp? If he isn’t then the manager set the course for this disaster.

After a 5-0 humping, you need to regroup be solid and get stuck in. He had five senior defenders to choose from and still put the child at LB with Saito as cover. It was almost as if he was doing a Harry Rednapp and not filling the bench to prove that the cupboard was bare.

I fear for the next few weeks and where the next point is coming from.

Brilliant, Clive. All the elements that focused on our ever-dwindling status, and the Groundhog Day feeling of our seasons really got to me. I’ve actively avoided football content this week as I’m sick to the teeth of seeing us simply tread water, which in reality means we falling behind.

Forget Brentford and Millwall, it’s the likes of Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon we’ve got to watch out for next…

This club needs sorting out from top to bottom, and although we have a wealthy benefactor, I fail to see how even the player trading model is going to work for us either. It would be very QPR to cock it up by crocking our best assets or allowing a 27 year old CEO to hire every possible football manager vacancy that the game has available.

We either need a miracle year (à la Warnock) or major investment.

Apologies, your great report has clearly triggered some brooding thoughts!!

Only upside of that is if we get stuck in right from the off, the crowd will really get behind the team. Underdogs and all that.

I agree we are now a league 1 club in stature but I don't think we are Premier league material if I have given that impression. What I have been harping on about is that we can only compete in the top division with significant investment and having people in who know what they are doing. Fulham and Chelsea are where they are because Al Fayed and Abramovich pumped money into them over time transforming their fortunes. City and Newcastle were mid table sides but now they play in the Champions League. Wrexham would still be in the doldrums if they didn't get the investment they has propelled them through the leagues.

We are not well run to do a Brentford on current evidence, to build up the club where they can win five of their last six away Premiership games. So assuming we never get a fairy godmother to provide the funds, then it is going to be a constant fight to stay up and consequently, there will be negligible improvement year on year. I may be a bit tongue in check but if we can't beat big clubs, can't beat parachute payment clubs, can't beat teams fighting relegation and can't beat London clubs then perhaps we are in the wrong sport. Maybe end the football club and reinvent ourselves as a hockey club as we might be better at it. I try to put aside being a fan and see how we look to neutrals and we look like we are stuck in a dead end trapped in mediocrity. It is just my opinion so I won't argue on here with those who think I am overly pessimistic as we all have differing views but sadly money is the key ingredient in today's game and has caused a seismic imbalance between various clubs.

It seems like a long time ago but think back to 15 years ago when Warnock led us to the Championship title and we could win 3-0 at Middlesbrough and beat Sheffield United 3-0 home and away. These clubs walk all over us now on the pitch and we can't compete with them while we remain static with barely any quality to speak of. We have never got anywhere near the team of 2010-11 in the last 10 years.

Nice mention for the greedy pigeon at the end.

I can't help but feel sorry for JS and can only wonder what things would be like if just half the injuries hadn't happened, especially to key players.

Nourry surely won't stand by his mate Williams for another season, will he?

All so true, it's just rinse and repeat season after season, you could even liken it to the DABDA grief principle as we head to 16th place.

See there’s no mark given for Kone? For me he was our man of the match.
Didn’t stop running and challenging for the ball for the whole ninety minutes, even though it looked like he was being held together by gaffer tape.Very unlucky to have the goal ruled out as well.

Thanks Clive - A great read on a thoroughly frustrating afternoon. What annoys me the most is that everyone in the pub could see the problem when the team was announced so why the hell could our management team not smell the danger.

I have been ok with JS this season but the last 2 games have left me completely frustrated with him tactically.

All of a sudden 52 points seems a lot further away than it should be.

Spot on again.
Most notably for me , regarding JS’s post match press conference.

I thought exactly the same as you that for the first time he looked a bit QPR’d and that he sounded like Marti did around this time last year .
I haven’t watched many of his press conferences admittedly, but that one Saturday set alarm bells off .
We just can’t swap another head coach over and expect it to all work out .
There are plenty who need to go before that happens .

Good report, thanks - pretty much how I saw it too. Was in two minds as to whether to go on Saturday or not after Tuesday - seems I took the wrong call.

It all felt a bit spring, late season subdued, nobody could really be arsed right from the off, including the crowd. Not sure I want to spend my heard earned on that for too much longer.

This season has flattered to deceive like many others - dodgy start followed by - hold on though here we go - we might have a couple of strikers here - could we make a push for the play offs???? - followed by, oh. No of course not.

Top report, I wasn’t at the game so only had the highlights to go on, but felt exactly like midweek.

Instead of getting to LR, I was at Stevenage where they played Stockport as both battled for the play offs.

I was put next to Neil Banfield who’s gone in as a coach to basically pass the time locally, the other side of him was a budding analyst with an ear piece and mic to the bench.

As the game went on Neil basically just spoke constantly, explaining everything and anything that he saw whilst the analyst frantically relaid this back to the bench.

I’ll be honest I was a bit struck by how much he was seeing and even more impressively could see coming. He would call overloads 4 or 5 plays before it happened. Was honestly insane, I know the average match going fan can see the game but this was like nothing I’ve heard or seen.

So if we’re sitting here, French cup winner JS, who took Strasbourg to sixth in Ligue 1, doesn’t know players are xrap and that a left side of Esquerdinha, Saito, (the returning) JCS and Varane is ropey… believe me he does and he can show you 10x more reason why it’s xrap.

What also struck me was the intensity and passion, not just from Banfield but also the manager, the analyst the players. People’s livelihood's and mortgages at risk. How they speak to each other, what they demand from each other. Even from the Stockport bench (inc a Mr Clint Hill) it was so intense and demanding.

Matt Phillips got MOTM on his first game, Jamie Reid (Northern Ireland Intl) was alongside him up front. Charlie Goode sat at the back with Ollie Norwood in midfield (and ran the show) for Stockport.

On the play trading side, every penny counts. You’re going to outlay X, you NEED to return Y. The money isn’t there for speculative shots. A lot of agents in football think their DoF is a nightmare, mainly because he won’t just play ball on what they want. Even if that means often losing out.

Everyone is held accountable.

One of the players said after the game that Phillips had given a talk on the standards he expects and what’s needed to make the play offs and every players output has gone up by 10%.

Why’s it okay to be pumped by 3+ so regularly? Who’s holding the standards throughout the club? Why are some players finishing games at Loftus Road then driving straight to their local gym to do more work?

So coming back to QPR you have to seriously look at this player availability thing, but also the standard of the players that are being brought in as speculative shots.

We talk about some of them needing loans, other than Morgan and Kolli (maybe), I don’t think any of the others get game time in League 1 - so why are they here?

You can hammer Les Ferdinand for keeping players around like Ozzy Kakay and Charlie Owens when you’re bringing in a truckload of Aussie and Americans to warm the bench but be miles off it.

Edwards and Saito are great but say you went for a liberal guess of 6m outlay on the pair, are you making that 3x in the next few years? Both great players but with clearly weaknesses that certainly make them playing in the PL a long shot.

Maybe it’s just been a bad week, but when you see something like that so up close, then think back to us half throwing away games and being told about not seeing your favourite players it does make you think.

Saturday was every bit as annoyingly disappointing as I felt it was going to be in advance, and this Sunday fills me with dread too.

I have a lot of sympathy for Stephan in the end, he knows the starting 11 as a whole is nowhere near Championship level but when he's got 10-12 of his stronger squad members sat in the stands every week what more can he do?

Boy Wonder is not a Board member and if the Board are doing their job properly they will over-rule come the summer and get things on the Exec/conditioning side. I have little faith in the Board doing their job properly however...

I find I am often exhausted at the end of games - the tension does me in.

Saturday I was serene as I knew were were getting tonked from minute 1. No anxiety just resignation. I was surprised it was only 2 and I did have a moment of extreme rage at Varane after the second goal but apart from that I felt strangely disengaged. Whole ground felt similar apart from a few thousand northerners singing about Sheffield Wednesday for 96 minutes.

It's slowly dawning on my why I can barely drag myself to Loftus Road nowadays. I've only been to the Preston and Leicester matches so far, although in a moment of insanity I agreed to go to Leicester away, so I'm looking forward to that.

In fairness to the team and JS, but not to certain other people at the club, injuries have wrecked what had become a very promising season and I'm pretty sure we'd be in or around the edge of the play offs if we had fewer long term injuries.

Suffering since 1978.

Cheers Clive. Eleven games to go indeed. And here's me still considering going to Leicester (basically I'm just looking for reasons to get out the house). Game three of a three game week? NURSE.

Yes the Stephan post-match was very telling. Wouldn't blame him to be looking for another job (although I do think he likes our players even if they're not very good).

"I am just the manager. I’m not a specialist of injuries." Hmmm a bit disingenuous, but a fairly pointed finger at Williams and co.

Dread to think what Boro will do to us. And it's live!!

Thanks Clive,

I missed my first home match of the season due to illness, but I managed to find a stream. Lucky me! Thankfully, as the first half progressed the freezing of the stream increased & so I gave up at half time.

My only suprise at that time was that we were only two goals behind! I'm so looking forward to being back at LR this Sunday.
