Utterly, absolutely brilliant, brilliant piece. I was going to turn up at LR around 2 tomorrow. After reading that I'll be there around 9pm tonight ready and waiting.

Hope everyone has an absolutely fantastic day tomorrow.

This level of writing really needs to be turned into a book. In your spare time Clive??? It would make Hornby's efforts look insipid in comparison.

Your other regular reader and I would both buy it I'm sure.

From very different experiences I completely identify with the feelings of alienation. If you don't fit in in the place you're supposed to spend more than half of your waking life, what's the point?

Meanwhile back to the almost present, QPR, LFW, Andy and Nick were a massive part of what kept me sane in lockdown. Still breathless with long Covid, other people's daily walks in the park weren't possible for the first couple of months of lockdown, so this and Netflix (and an Osprey nest in Scotland) were pretty much my whole existence. It doesn't really matter what your passion is for, having passion makes you feel alive. So if it's for a small overly ambitious club in West London, who cares?

Whatever happens, we've got to make a great season. And enjoy every f ucking moment. Because we deserve to after the 18 months we've just had. So let's make some noise tomorrow, even if you're in your front room listening to Nick and Andy.

Outstanding piece Clive. Had a fairly sh1tty childhood too (although not near as horrendous as yours) so I can empathise. I hope you and everyone else who attends tomorrow, enjoys every single moment of it, win lose or draw.

Clive I concur a book about your adolescence would help so many people who are going through the same thing now. Plus be a bestseller. Amazing heartfelt writing, thank you.

Thank you Clive, this preview was very much a read of two halves!

The first half, of course, will resonate with many of us. as did the thread that was started by WindsorR.

Then we come to the preview of this weeks matches & our expectations of Rangers for this season. Those expectations are not just from our faithful, but are echoed by many a fan of Premier clubs that have a genuine interest in football!

My hopes will definitely not be demoted by watching Bournemouth West Brom tonight. The Cherries had a couple of good moves & scored from them, but otherwise were mediocre.

West Brom, on the other hand, looked like a version of Barnsley that is yet to perfect that role. They will probably give us problems though!

I think that tomorrow will be one of our toughest home games this season & I can envisage all three outcomes. Just a reminder to everyone that not winning the first match is not a disaster. We didn't manage to for the 72/73 & 82/83 seasons!

Brilliant stuff Clive. Brought memories of my childhood back with some tears.my father introduced me to QPR at age 8 and although I've cursed him many times since I would not change it

Incredible piece of writing as usual, Clive.

I have lot of sport that i use to get away from my COVID worries that are driving me crazy. My wife can't wait to the end of the Olympics so I don't regale her with news of golds, bronzes and silvers, but she's not too happy about me spending every day of a 163-game baseball season living and dying with my team, then informing her "Don't worry, we've got QPR to wait for, and then the American football season, followed March Madness (college basketball)." I only thank the Good Lord that I don't gamble on sports, because otherwise i'd be even worse.

But thanks for vocalising it, Clive. You're amazing.

Thanks Clive - great read as always.
Plenty of us on other side of the world with same long standing love affair with our club who feel connected through this site & more importantly your previews/reviews.
Our Kiwi group numbers 130+ now & somehow a few of us got to chat with MW & set us up for that strong second half of last season. It’s come a long way from sea freight Shoot magazines & FA Cup issues arriving at Xmas.
Envious of those at stadium tomorrow & nerves kicking in over here.
Enjoy

What a beautiful piece of writing, that had me near tears a couple of times. Just beautiful.
I hope you haven't peaked early Clive, no one likes it when that happens...

I hope you all enjoy the return to Loftus Rd., I really envy you, but you've done it much tougher over there than we have in Oz, so good luck to you. 2-0 to the good guys...come on you R's...

Wonderful piece.

On your Derby odds question - they were 4/1 on 1st August, now been backed into 6/4 (Fav) to win their game.

Superb.

I'm glad QPR have always been there for you - and for all of us long suffering supporters. Today could be something special, whatever the result.

You R'sss!!!

Suffering since 1978.

Great read going to miss not being ridiculed/included this season you got as good a chance as most in what looks like a pretty average league with no real stand out team.Good luck

Thanks Clive. You've been there for all of us through this long period. One thing that didn't change. One regular football habit that we didn't have to give up or amend.

You're still welcome to 'attend'.

As I'm sure you know Konk (Fulham) stuck with us last season!

another part of my life returns with your previews.

QPR for me is also my escape, and this forum just adds fuel to fire my passion for our team and I can realise its not just me who feels about the beautiful team of ours

No knob end or battle of teams beginning with B.

come on Clive you have to call them Preston Knob End, it makes me laugh everytime. Not the same when I write it. Your Knob end is much better!!!

captains fantastic
Poll: Jimmy Dunne Will he stay or will he go

Astonishing prose. Just read for the third time and gets better every time.

Was born in Hammersmith and then incarcerated in Scunthorpe. Flixborough is a very sensitive subject for me for reasons I won't bore you with, but it brought it all back and made me cry.

Best wishes to everybody here. Win draw or lose, forever Rs.

I'd like to wish you luck for this season, too. It's going to be tough but we need to be able to believe that you can be a smallish club and still make climb into the EPL and stay there. And can you definitely give the Scum a thrashing. Thank you.

Thanks and yes will be tough and I haven’t got high expectations but it’s all new for me like having most of our opening fixtures KO times changed 😖The fixture schedule is a walk in the park compared to the madness of last season.I will honestly miss the championship as I think it’s the best in the world.
