Crikey what a balls up.

I actually genuinely felt sorry for the man.

A dreadful mistake !!!

He did always have that in his locker before or maybe its just in front of the loft end..

Put yourself in that position. I personally would have needed a toilet break after such a calamity.

Unfortunately though the shot that deflected up right near the end that he tipped over rather than in, meant my sadness and good vibes for the chap diminished in that moment.

Crikey though. What a howler !!!!!

It was a terrible mistake. Didn't make much of a difference though.

I thought we deserved to be 1-0 up at half time.

Obviously so did Joe

Excellent point and I mentioned it on another thread but Joe will hurt them in a promotion push IMO.
Almost identical mistake to the one he made at Old Trafford and only for the miss of his life from Ronaldo that would have been 2 - 0 Utd and cup dream over .Strange how the needle swung the other way and they advanced.
Every QPR fan in that stadium knew Joe was going to hand us something but for Boro the stakes are high

Boro fans rate him as the weakest player in the starting eleven.

Didn't we score off of a Lumley mistake in the reverse fixture, too?

Classic Lumley really.

At the ground I thought he was very slow getting across to the first but watching it back on TV it was a very well placed shot by Chair. Not a great deal of pace in the shot though and I wonder if a decent keeper who can use his feet for momentum might have got something on it. As ever, he looks incredibly cumbersome getting down to his left. Can’t imagine Wilder having much patience with him, a big weakness in an otherwise excellent Boro team.

Yes but for those quick to coat off Lumley, remember we were very lucky that Marshall's mis-kick did not result in a goal, when they hit the crossbar. Well and all as he played (and he made three tremendous saves) his distribution is not as good as Seny's (He also indirectly resulted in Peterboro's first goal on Sat) and for that reason would have Dieng back in on Saturday.
In general, I think keeper's are being hung out to dry, with these short passes and short kick-outs inside their own six-yard box. Even when it 'works', it inevitably leads to a long (and often hurried) clearance, and often by far better keepers than in the Championship

I suspect he thought he was playing for Charity Park Rangers again, hence the welcome gift.

He is in the mould of Tony Roberts, the majority of the time he looks a decent keeper and makes great saves. But prone to calamity Green like mistakes in games of high pressure.

What is notable is that 4 keepers who played in our 1st team now play in the Champ as the 1st pick. Smithers, Lums, Ingram and Dieng (well assuming he takes back the spot).

Seems our goalkeeping scouts are doing their jobs.

Haven't seen a replay yet, but live I thought exactly the same about their first as well.

It wasn't a snap shot and was only going in one spot as Chair shaped to shoot.

Seen GKs save shots taken much quicker than that - Reading GK v Dykes, 1st half inside the box - came to him quicker. harder, right in the corner and he still saved it.

Marshall 1st half to his right, came through a crowd of players but he was there.

Don't want to crucify the bloke but think it was one he could have got closer to at least, what do you think Brian? - our resident GK coach!

Has there ever been a precedent in a player declining so much over such a short space of time?

PP,

I would be disappointed if a Rangers goalie let Chair's one in, to be honest.

Lumley had time to take four steps, it's at a good height, nice pace, and it was a couple of feet inside the post. What causes Lumley a problem is that he sets up, takes two tiny steps, stops again, takes two more tiny steps and then dives. Even then he's not at full extension when he dives. What you're looking for is set-up, wait, two big steps and a hard, full dive.

It’s not so much a decline, he’s always had the same weaknesses. Don’t think it was that far into his career when that Grealish free kick hitting the post set the alarm bells off, low to his left he cannot dive efficiently.

A bit harsh above on Marshall, not so much a goalkeeping issue, unless under extreme pressure our defenders shouldn’t be putting rolling balls on his left foot. Thought he was excellent once again.

Good to have some validatiomn - i thought he should've done better myself.

After the elation I felt pretty bad for him, but there were a lot of regulars around me who looked very smug and vindicated

The best that Lumley can hope for is that he can make decent living out of the game as a second or third choice keeper for someone but even that is pushing it a bit i'm afraid to say.

I didn’t think we closed down their goal kicks enough last night, especially knowing how Lumley struggles with that part of his game.

always liked Joe when he got into the side as he was something we severely lacked at the time; vocal!

bit hit and miss as a keeper with the odd serious fack up in him; hopefully he makes a few more when they are playing low teams, and then earns them great draws in the matches against other top teams when we want neither to get 3 points

Felt for him as well.

He played well for us when he first came in, so we know he has the ability.

He may lack belief, though - Steve is right that he's inconsistent to his left. I think that's down to poor footwork on those occasions, and I have a pet belief that poor footwork comes from poor decision-making and/or hesitancy, which comes from a lack of belief.

He seems like a lovely guy but being prone to mistakes doesn't work at this level. It's so demoralising for the fans and your teammates.

I can only remember Seny doing one complete ballsup, against West Brom. Otherwise he's so much more solid. Marshall has been a revelation coming in cold and yet being able to gel with the defence. And what a save he made yesterday. Lucky to have two such keepers in the squad.

I must admit I felt a little guilty for our mockery when I read he had been with us 11 years - is that right? His old team mates helped him through his embarrassment by giving him bugger all to do the rest of the night.

Seems a likeable man but is a bum goalkeeper at this level. I'm so glad we have improved in that area over the past two seasons. Makes a huge difference.

I felt sorry for him as well, tempered by the fact I'm sure he said something to Illias after that first miss, tried to get SJ booked for a nothing foul in the first half and took a minute with that last GK!

BUT fair play to him, still clapped us at the end despite the chants!
