Bag of chips. 14:35 - Dec 6 with 5358 viewsSonofpugwash

Got mugged in Aberystwyth this morning.....£2.40 for a standard portion ffs. For that sort of money I want them encased in edible gold leaf.
What's the price like in your part of the world?

Holding up but saw in the papers (well, online) recently that chippies all over the country are really worried. They have no choice but to increase prices as energy usage is such a big part of their business but they fear they'll lose a lot of customers, particularly the 'Friday-evening treat' customers.

Not purchased recently so just looked up my chippy

1/2 portion - £1.50 S- £2.25 L - £3

Don't think £2.40 is out the ordinary these days. Mine may be a bit more as its an image that is 6 months old.

3 slices of corned beef in the Co-Op - £ 3.50. Are you sure?

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

For no particular reason other than I buy them cos kids like them I use cucumber’s as the benchmark. Currently 69p at the supermarket, last year 50p.

Great thing about cucumbers is they're non binary.

£2.95 for a medium portion at Smiles in Staines. They don't do a small portion, but to be fair the medium portion is more than enough for two.

You can get a large tin for less than that, although you are likely to lose a finger opening it.

Plus the key on the tin is what Supermarket workers use on trollies to save them putting a pound in.

Martin Lewis would be proud of you. . A normal house key does the same thing and you don’t have to buy corned beef.

You do know that you can retrieve the £1 coin once you have parked the trolley. Cheaper than buying a tin of corned beef and more secure for your home than using a house key.

If I could go back in time I’d go to Latimer Road chip shop, just off Latimer Place, late 1960’s, and get the finest chips for sixpence (old money), bits of crackling at the bottom to round it all off, seasoned with the best vinegar known to man.

Man on the moon, top chips, QPR finding it’s feet, what a time to be alive.

Ahahaha

Did EXACTLY the same thing when I was down there for work one glorious day in May.
Came out on the seafront and only just midday, but the sound of the gulls, the smell of the sea and chips wafting towards me and there was Harry’s right in front of me.

Stood and waited for what seems ages to actually get my grub and then noticed the price of the cans. “No drink thanks love”

Same as Pukka Pies, eye wateringly expensive at the chippie so you get one from Morrisons at £1.50 pop it on the exhaust manifold of your motor and by the time you get your chips everything is piping hot.
(Can't do that with an electric car)
