I struggled over this reference to Popmaster, that I thought had finished some years ago. ( I got a mention for Mrs Hants and received a signed photo on Ken's last day.) . Anyway, I see it's on 'Greatest Hits Radio - so thanks for that and well done Jeff/Geoff!

My record score is 36, but have hit 33 and 30 once or twice.
It really does depend on the questions though. Theres some rounds where I really struggle to get to double figures. Especially if the questions are the last 20 years.

I once got on the radio to Norman Jay on kiss Fm back in the day. I was Pissed out of my tree when i called and also topped up with some petrol washed off the rock chisel, as was the zeitgeist of the times.
Acid Jazz high sensei 'Omar', who had a few top ten hits around that time , was on with Norman promoting his tour..
Having waited enough time on the phone to Master the high teachings of Umayyad Dynasty Islamic Textile Studies, i was finally patched through on a line that was more full of static than the Apollo 15 line from the sea of fecundity as they circumnavigated the Mons Hadley.
as i stated earlier, I was obviously c unted out of my skate, and thus emboldened to the point where i felt a kinship of sorts with Omar.
Over the piss poor line, i ventured to the Talkin' Loud Dingwalls kingpin , That He was heavily influenced in his early body of work by Donald Byrd, Larry Fonce Mizzell, Ramsey lewis, Johnny Hammond and Gary Bartz..
...who were in point of fact, his musical tesseract and thus tapping the creative source that lurked dormant within , and that Normans Jay's Shake and fingerpop collective rare groove nights, were a black music organic conduit of some higher nature that showcased Omars Dirty Funk to a clued up element, who in turn, have remained staunch and loyal for the last 25 years to his Music..
Omar replied 'Fingerpop what Mate?', before i was cut off and returned to Tales of the unexpected on Itv 4. What a Bastard.
Didn't even get the opportunity to name 3 Level 42 top ten hits.

Omar’s great. Had him and a few others in the back of the cab many years ago when me and my Leeds mate, a music writer/editor pissed off at the Mobo’s lack of interest in soul music, hatched a plan to gatecrash the O2 Arena, where the award show was taking place that year.
We figured that a black cab would be the perfect ‘Trojan Horse’ for such an enterprise so we piled them in the back and set off on our mission.
We somehow managed to evade several security checks (the boys had no official passes) before disgorging them on the red carpet itself, where they unfurled the ‘Mobo’s Where’s Your Soul?’ posters my mate had printed earlier.
Anyway, here’s how it unfolded …

But then I read his wonderful autobiography, Mister Good Times, and was saddened to learn that he’d been the victim of racial abuse at a QPR v Ch*lsea reserve game, his first ever trip to Loftus Road, when he was nine.
Anyway, our loss was Spurs’ gain.
Sadly, the great man is not so well at the moment. I’m sure those of us who appreciate his contribution to the UK music scene over many, many years will wish him well.

I like the fact that he occasionally threw in a tune that you might not expect, or associate with his ‘brand’. He dropped Living in the Past by Jethro Tull on his radio show one night, which took me (pleasantly) by surprise. It’s a ‘tune’ after all. No barriers, no boundaries.
