Sorry, Pinnock going to Aberdeen? Pinnock the Beesotted pick for Championship surprise package of the year?
Very much message board talk, I don't know Pinnock so that's why I was asking if there could be any weight to the tale. There is definitely something afoot with players being released and transfer requests. I agree DannyR, McKenna is OK but not for big money and wages, perfect for us if he was £500k and wages to suit but what they've talked about doesn't make sense. Porteous is good with potential but too rash and he has to improve his distribution and ball retention, he'd be great if there was a good calm head like Richard Dunne or Ryan Nelsen to bring him on, played his best football with Efe Ambrose for that reason I think

TalkSport reporting Brentford have had a bid of £6.5m rising to £10m accepted for Ivan Toney. That feels like a lot, and again comes back to the point of just how much strikers cost.
Toney is decent. At L1 level.

Jaysus Dougal have you seen the size of these fellas though:
Carlisle totally messing with the minds of the rest of the division, who are gonna be absolutely bricking it now. I’d be surprised if their opponents even turn up the first few games.
Can’t help thinking, though, that they could have gone the whole hog and got a 3 year old kid to dress up as the manager, got them both standing in front of a kid’s goal from Argos, and have another 3 year old tootling around in the background in one of those red plastic cars with yellow roofs, that pis sed-up blokes get stuck in at family barbecues. Player would have looked about 15’ tall then.

Norwich now adding a Spanish left back after pricing Lewis out of a Liverpool move.
Interesting how they've gone early full tilt at the revamp despite not yet moving on the players in situ. You would expect them all to move eventually but it seems clear they're prepared to wait til last knockings or even the growing possibility (if they continue to stand firm on prices) that they might not move at all this window.
That's the way it should be done of course, it's the way we would likely be doing it too if we had the money in reserve. But it does result in what you would imagine is a pretty uncertain and unstable pre season with all sorts of different ambitions and levels of focus and experience and familiarity of league to hold together. Especially recovering off the back of a mostly flatline season.
As I say they have the means to do so (albeit with at least five players with a question mark over their heads). But it's somewhat relevant to our own situation in the sense that presumably/hopefully we have no-sale and post-sale shopping lists. Do we wait for the possibility of something top shelf, capitalising on when we'll have some money and others won't, or crack on now more pragmatically and keep it saved for the next round of upgrades?

I don't think they spent much/anything after achieving promotion. Banked all the Sky money. Sensible approach.

He's quite good in Football Manager if that helps, surprised he hasn't found a club yet
Whatever happend to Sam Hutchinson and Winnall, weren't we supposed to be in for them?

Winnall is an old link. Hutchinson apparently trained with us after being booted by Wednesday pre-lockdown but hasn’t happened. (Another signing article in the Darren Ambrose bin)

Now in for Hugill as well according to one of the Sky Bots.

Norwich's approach must be the stuff of genius, because I can't see the logic at all.
Go up, spend nothing, stick with the same team that got you promoted, almost inevitably finish bottom of the table.
THEN buy an entirely new batch of decent, proven Championship level players on top of 90 per cent of that team seemingly staying put, so that... what? You can do the whole thing again with double the wage bill?
Eh?

Fallout from Aberdeens 'Covid 8' is apparently Craig Bryson and Michael Devlin have refused to pay their club fines and are leaving club. McKenna and Sam Cosgrove handed in transfer request, McKenna going to Brentford in exchange for Ethan Pinnock plus cash for Aberdeen. Is there any weight in Pinnock deal? Sam Cosgrove is now an effective forward who Guincamp had a bid of about £2m accepted by Aberdeen but he didn't want to go there, he could do a job in Championship but I do think Dykes has more potential longer term.
"McKenna going to Brentford in exchange for Ethan Pinnock plus cash for Aberdeen. Is there any weight in Pinnock deal?"
I would be absolutely astonished if that came off, since all three elements of that seem wrong, completely wrong.
Plus McKenna's got dodgy hamstrings.

I guess Maddison is turning out for Peterborough Sports as a favour for a mate or something to keep fit until he gets a pro deal, can't imagine he'd drop out of the Football League entirely.
Have you ever been tempted to release some of the reports of players you had articles written for signing, that never did Northern? If you ever kept them and didn't just press the "delete" button that is...
Probably not something you'd do in the same year a signing never happened, but it'd be an interesting thing to look back on some years later.

What they're doing now is logical. They're aggressively building in anticipation of interest in Aarons, Lewis, Godfrey, Buendia, Cantwell being met. Problem looming is what happens in the meantime if no one will pay the top whack they won't budge on in a tough market.
What's never been logical to me is with having half a great young team in place they didn't try raise the stakes even a bit last season. It's not like they were in debt with run down facilities. Nothing wrong with good housekeeping but there's pragmatism and there's not seeing the wood for the trees - they might bounce back with another good team but it's not going to be a better team, just one with more money banked. Unless they're saving for Messi it's like they voluntarily decided to repeat a year.

Does seem slightly mad but on the other hand they’ve had a chance to see which players could compete at top level, come down with an extra £50 to £100m to add to that side and maybe have a much better shot at competing at top level in 21/22.
It could all go wrong but they’d still have cash in the bank.
Poor looking league next year, no sign of wage cap for the season, FFP on brink of collapse, if ever there was a season to go for it, this is it.
