I say this time and time again - you cannot get angry about a player refusing to sign a contract. In the past, can't remember who, but someone (wrongly) compared being a footballer to slavery. That's ridiculous of course, but he is a human being and he has a right to decide what he wants to do with his life and career. If BOS was 37 and had a year to run and was broken down and not in the side and on big wages, we'd all be demanding he leave and criticising him for not taking a pay cut to get regular first team football elsewhere. We. Cannot. Have. It. Both. Ways.
Sorry, but if he wants to wait and see if an offer comes in from Palace or similar, there is nothing wrong with that. If they don't, and he re-signs, then that's fine too. If they don't and he decides he wants to take his chances next summer, then, sorry, I know it's annoying, but that is also fine.
We can tak about loyalty and 'paying back the club' and all this guff, but the reality is he was not treated well before Warbs came in terms of game time, and we would be trying to offload him quickly and persuading him to take less money elsewhere if he wasn't any good.
I'm not saying players aren't sometimes the bad guys - of course they are. But sometimes I think fans need to be a bit more nuanced about this stuff. Can't really understand why he didn't go for the Bruges offer. On the face of it, bearing in mind that he wanted a move, I thought it represented a real step up.

This cant be a good situation for either the player/club/Manager 3-4 days before the season starts.
I'm not quite sure how the Manager keeps his cool under these situations, how the hell can he bring in players when he doesn't know if one of his own contracted players will even be here this coming Saturday.
Were not exactly bursting with talent at the moment and our squad 'weaknesses' are well documented and so far haven't been addressed yet.
It shouldn't be this way but that's football I guess a strange form of 'headhunting'

Yes agree with others, tell him if he doesn't sign he doesn't play. His options are:
a) Sign a new deal.
b) Get another club who will pay the fee.
c) Go on loan, if he wants to play this season and earn any bonuses that he may lose (by not playing).
He may of course decide to do none of those and just sit out this season, a risk, I believe, we have to take. | | | |

All told its all pretty simple.
One of in order of preference
!) BOS signs a new contract
2) An acceptable bid comes in and BOS agrees to go
3) He agrees to go out on loan for the season to another championship club who will pay his current wages and pay a decent loan fee
4) He sits in the stiffs for the season. We get nothing for him. He doesn't develop, he doesn't put himself in the shop window, and he has a much reduced chance of getting the sort of deal that he's looking for.
At no point should he play for us past the deadline window if he doesn't sign a new contract.
With the Eze transfer the club can afford to play hardball with him and need to as it sends a message to the other players not to pfaff around chasing a ghost of two birds in the bush rather than the one he has in his hand.
He'd be much better off signing a new contract and having a full season tearing up the championship .. everythign else will just follow, just like it did for Eze. | | | |

If he doesnt go and doesnt sign to take his chances next summer that IS fine,...as long as his playing commitment remains consistent until the day he is not taking our salary .
Given that an injury can occur at any time and that he would no doubt be sounded out by prospective clubs whilst still playing and being paid by us . I think that is both difficult and unlikely ......... He, as well as us cannot have it both ways. [Post edited 9 Sep 2020 17:54]

Scottish Sun going quite big on this for him going to Celtic.
Lennon likes his wingers so think he would get a fair crack of the whip with game time and they've Europa League, which I think is a good level for Celtic to compete at and could look good for future buyers if performs well there.
Celtic won't necessarily hold him back either, sign 4yr deal play this season and next then move for double purchase price is often their method.

I can't see that Celtic loaning him back for a year is going to work at all - so he plays for us with everyone (squad/management/fans) knowing that he's deliberately running down his contract and screwing the club out of any fee at the end of the season?
