'Rob Dickie, Jebediah Springfield and Louis XV were the centre halves with Todd Kane to their right and a haunted house to their left'

Loved this line. Absolutely brilliant prose Clive. Thank you.

That alone was worth the entrance fee.

Brilliant writing Clive; the fact that you make reports on defeats entertaining meant I knew this would be good!

do you didn't let us down...... I'm off to look at the small ads in the local for some similarly worded adds

Having watched Kanes cross again, I think he is actually aiming for Kelman and Uncle picks it out as its actually a poor cross. This is why it foxes everyone from both teams, along with the great touch of course. You can see this from a different angle that's he is looking to Kelman and not anyone else.

So, that assist from Kane in my view is more luck than skill.

zzzzzzzzzz

"me thinking what would BOS or a better crosser of the ball made of that time and space"

If BOS had still been here then i would have to speculate, based on every game for the past 4-6 weeks, that he would receive the ball run along the touch line and then head towards the box, divert away from the goal, get to the white line and:
a) run it out of play
b) shoot in to the side netting
c) kick it against the last defender he came across on his trip to the goal line and maybe just win a corner
Resulting in him walking away looking nonplussed or dare I say it frankly rather bored

Think that’s a bit harsh on Bright. Playing the wing back role at Luton and home to Fulham in the cup I thought he worked incredibly hard and put in some dangerous deliveries.

I’d also add that most game BOS played for us this season he’d clearly been identified as the danger man by the opposition with players doubling up on him. Do you remember seeing him be afforded the time and space of Kane the other night? That was the main point, Kane did well, but I can’t help but think what BOS or others would have delivered given the same freedoms. I think he would have caused them all sorts of problems but Kane deserves a pat on the back, it’s the left side I’m more concerned about anyway.

Brilliant report.

Kane deserved MOM.

Kane's crossing is getting better. One reason, It's a bit hit and miss is because he is often trying to play the ball in early. Most of us have criticised BOS, Carroll and Chair for taking too long on the ball, so patience needed.

There were poor touches from Ball and even Dickie the other night too.

I know this won’t happen but if someone saw someone getting punched on camera and the ref missed it the the FA would deal with it retrospectively, so what’s the difference with someone being heard calling someone a cûnt which is also technically a red card offence?

In the NFL if you stand over someone and taunt them its penalized and the other team gets a free 15 yards either on the same drive or after the team kicks off .It normally occurs after a score or a big play on D.The same player will get tossed out if he gets another un- sportsmanship flag I think.
Deeney is a pr*ck but its impossible to control that behaviour IMO without changing the rules.Of course if SD chased him and cold cocked him that might change it
Brilliant report as usual Clive

Surely the swearing by Deeney is a case of unsportsmanlike behaviour and worthy of a yellow card.

Pinner and I don't agree often, but we agree on this. Good luck penalising that. You'd quickly see referees criticised for getting too involved, stop start game, too many cards, ruining it etc.

That would mean referees are ignoring the rules of the game for the good of the game. Pointless having the rule in the first place. Can see how John Terry got away with it now. Behaviour would soon be modified if enough yellow cards were handed out for swearing.

I think there's a fair bit of that already. Placement of free kicks in neutral areas, for instance. Doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, would slow the game up massively if they were picky about it, and we'd accuse them of being exactly that.

I remember old Roger Milford saying it was ridiculous to send off for swearing, but if a player called him a cheat, it was a straight red.
They're just words - if someone is being abusive in the face of an official, fine - and i think sometimes refs are too lenient there, particularly with RAs! But I'm not going to get bothered about Deeney.

Bare bones.

I think they're too lenient on dissent. But I do not want to watch a referee dominated game of 7 v 8.

Was this Stan or Rodney?

"Ref, what would you do if I said you were a wánker?"
"I'd send you off"
"What would you do if I thought you were a wánker?"
"I couldn't do anything"
"I think you're a wánker!"

Oh that's a bit harsh, I wouldn't say we don't agree a lot, just that we disagree quite a few times!

Just watched the 90' for the first time.

Non Refereeing - Barbet my MOTM, didn't put a foot wrong

Refereeing - Agree with you (there we go! ) definitely one of, if not, the best ref in this league. Not surprising as Australia's top ref by a mile and already been 4th and the VAR (Yes, yes I know!) on the PL.

But just to keep it up, Charlie's foul on the GK - actually 'Playing a dangerous manner' as the ref gave an indirect free kick is never a yellow card in a month of Sundays.

Totally agree, who am I to try and stop a bloke that swears in usual speech doing it on a football pitch, however what Deeney said wasn’t just “usual speech” it was insulting and directed straight at Dieng, this is the kind of behaviour that refs should be cracking down on, it would only take a couple of reds for it to sink in.

I expected a booking for that purely because the goalkeeper was releasing the ball into a counter attack situation. It was like the deliberate handball their lad did get booked for second half, deliberate and cyncical act to prevent a counter attack forming.

Yep spot on - 300 decisions, including non decisions obviously, in a game - concentrate on the big ones and if we're honest that's what we want to see ref's get right.

TBF this question DOES get raised at nearly every RA (Referee's Association) presentation/ Q & A with the top referees.

3 main reasons they don't penalise it

1) With a crowd they honestly don't hear half of it
2) Main thing at this and most levels, is to maintain control of the game - at this level the swearing isn't going to affect that - let it go on Sunday morning and it will - hence the difference
3) At grassroots again, could escalate into physical violence v oppo and the ref - that's not going to happen in the professional game

Plus me and Clive's reasons of course!

We've had this debate on here before - referee the game EXACTLY as per LOTG and referee would be hounded off the pitch in 10 minutes!
