Just looking at the table and there are still 3 games to go but I can't remember a time when the 3 relegated clubs occupied the top 3 positions in the table this late in the season
Norwich are up..... Watford good as.... and Bournemouth I think bar one of the other teams doing a QPR style job on them like we done on Derby should also go up
I hope this is an anomaly but with the money these teams receive coming down.... Will the championship now be a mini Premier even more.
Wonder if every year it will be the 3 coming down dominating and the rest scraping for 4th 5th and 6th....... |  | | |  |

This season more than any other, squad size comes into it and I'd presume that may be the difference. Also, they haven't really let many of their big players go, which helps them. Plus, the Championship has been pretty weak for the last couple of seasons.
Thinking it'll be the same next season - Fulham and West Brom will still be strong and I think that despite a godawful season, Sheff U might turn things around. At least two of them will go back up.
And yes, the gap and the parachute payments are just getting bigger and bigger, so we're not far from a closed shop...

It depends on the degree of sound management of the relegated clubs. If they play their cards right, then yes, they should be able to go straight back up, and even prosper long-term. Like Burnley and West Brom. If they have spun*ed all the TV money on stupid player and manager salaries, then they won't. Like QPR, Blackburn, Blackpool, Derby etc.
PS: Just a reminder that founding members of the Premier League included QPR, Oldham, Blackburn, Coventry, Ipswich, Sheff Wed, Middlesborough and Wimbledon. [Post edited 21 Apr 2021 22:11]

What’s most concerning is all three sides were dreadful last season.
FFP is the killer, replace it with a wage cap of £18-19 mill so clubs can have a clear competitive plan.
Would like to know the income clubs have gained from pay per view tv this season, particularly income from non season ticket holders and how it compares to income from Sky. If they hit break even (exc ST holders) might add something to the pot if we carry on playing well next season. |  | | |

I think it's a case that COVID hit clubs finances as therefore mid table Prem clubs cut their cloth accordingly and couldn't afford to spend.
That meant Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth pretty much kept their squads in tact |  |

Yes probably, but a couple of things are unique this season...
- size of your squad really counts, and the relegated teams come down with more players
- Championship transfer market doesn't exist this year as it has previous. They've been able to spend and add as normal because of the big parachute (Norwich did 12 new signings) whereas the rest have been keeping their powder as dry as possible because they're not certain when gate revenues will be coming back. Gate revenues are the biggest income for clubs like us and don't exist this season, for the relegated clubs the biggest income by far is the parachute. |  | | |

parachute payments help and the fact clubs that go up "strengthen" and usually retain most.
time to apply fair play rules too prem league asap. to think up to the mid 90s chelsea were nothing and man city were ready to drop to old div 3, man utd could not win the league 1/championship until prem started, arsenal won the odd cup , liverpool dominated and spurs were a "cup team", teams like qpr, watford, saints, wba and norwich, ipswich came runners up or top 6 often. coventry were a stable club and wimbledon feared. | | | |

Think the 3 who came down last year were all decent sides so were always going to be there or thereabouts. Bournemouth and Watford had been mid table Premier league sides until last season. The 3 coming down this year are similar in that they are well equipped for the championship |  | | |

Totally agree that the 2 of the 3 clubs that came down were established premiership clubs over the years and not the yo yo clubs such as Norwich and Fulham. Though I can see Norwich next year establishing themselves
Out of the most likely 3 coming down for me Shef United will struggle and perhaps not go back up
What I'm hoping this year is a Barnsley miracle in the play offs for them to get past most likely Bournemouth and have a good day at Wembley, but Bournemouth seems to have hit the straps with 6 consecutive wins | | | |
