But social media isn't the problem it's the people using social media to abuse people.
That's starting to sound like guns don't kill people, people kill people.
It all needs confronting and addressing. People should be able to do the things they want to do in life without having to suffer vile abuse. Essentially it's bullying, and bullying should never be acceptable.
You seem to have bought into the fallacy that wealth protects you from mental illness or emotional struggles. I'd have thought that Paul Gascoigne, Tony Adams or Gary Speed might have taught you that it doesn't.
I know it's nothing much in the grand scale of things - and I'm not sure I like that its timing is a handy distraction from the ESL aftermath - but there's nothing like a boycott to make companies feel remorse in the very bottom of their wallets.
It's worth a go anyway.
I agree, something must be done to make social media to moderate their platforms. I just think more drastic action is needed to force them to be accountable. A mass boycott for a month or even until they make proper changes may do it if every club also asked their sponsors etc to halt advertising. A weekend boycott won't even cause a blip for them.

Leaving aside the question of whether it's ok for Twitter and Facebook to ignore abuse and death threats of highly paid footballers, this is not just about footballers, it's also about journalists and coaches and supporters. Even if it was just about footballers, most footballers are on low wages.

Anybody playing professional footballer in England,is earning far more than the average persons ÂŁ27,000 a year, probably 3 times that in league 2, and at least 10 time that in the championship, never mind the scumship (premiership).

There are large amounts of T&Cs on social sites banning hate speech etc, but when push comes to shove, said sites are very lacklustre at enforcing them - it's near impossible to report a tweet and get any action. But post a copyrighted video and they'll have your account gone in minutes.
If you're a black footballer, whose popularity is essentially creating revenue for said company who then do nothing while your mentions fill up with the vilest racial abuse.
That first para is spot on for me; they won't do much around the ease at which "anonymous" accounts can be set up.
I doubt this will make much difference.
Instead, they'll focus their energies on a post my wife put on Facebook calling a friend a "cheeky monkey" in the context you'd expect. Facebook decided that the post was "offensive" and issued a warning. That'll teach everyone, eh?
