Phillips I thought was a bit of a chancer but had a wonderful game today. MOM for me.
| England v croatia thread. on 16:10 - Jun 13 with 1282 views | bosh67 | Considering Trippier was asked to play left back as a right footed player I thought he did really well. I can see why Southgate played him because he kind of captained the team in all but arm band. Talked, organised, geed up and encouraged the players all over the pitch. Very impressive. | |

Agree with all that. Bold move by Southgate but it worked. Philips has far more game than I realised. Nice left-footed through ball, enough to tip the scales for him as MOTM.

| England v croatia thread. on 16:53 - Jun 13 with 1129 views | distortR | yeah, Phillips very good today, I'll eat some humble pie! Mings fine, the defence solid as a unit, but they weren't asked to do too much - possibly because of the work done further up the pitch | | | |
| England v croatia thread. on 16:56 - Jun 13 with 1114 views | derbyhoop | Most of the earlier comments slagging off Tripier, Phillips (MOTM) and Southgate's selections look a bit silly after the win. Good start, but plenty of games to go. | |

Walker? That’s pretty generous of you. First half he couldn’t do anything right, arguably the worst player on the pitch. Much better second but no where near the level to move into MOTM territory. Phillips for me and I’m not his biggest fan.
| England v croatia thread. on 17:10 - Jun 13 with 1067 views | MedwayR | Walker looked out of sorts to me, although he defended ok, so I wouldn't mind seeing Trippier switch to RB and Shaw come in at LB. Phillips was very good and the midfield had a nice balance, I initially thought Rice would be the one to push forward with Phillips sitting but Rice did a lot of sitting on the left to support the out-of-position Trippier. What I like about Phillips and Rice is that they're both comfortable on the ball so they can do more than just sit. Sterling was good, I can't see where Grealish will get a game never mind Sancho. The big concern was that Kane couldn't get into the game. | |
