Flippin' heck - Paal, Amos, Willock, JCS, Richards ALL OUT SATURDAY.

Royally screwed.

The Head Coach says that every time we play we pick up injuries - WTF? This squad is not robust enough and has little strength in depth. This is going to be a hell of a long season.

Can we go out yet?
Poll: What would you take for Willock if a bid comes this month?

Got a pair of old Golas somewhere, might dig them out and offer my services.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Very interested by the seemingly barbed comments (certainly felt barbed to me) by the manager after last night.

Is he suggesting there are players that could be putting their hand up to play and aren't?

Or is he suggesting the medical team are pulling players out of games when he thinks they're fine?

Or something else?

Saying after Saturday that they'd told him Willock could only do an hour but he left him on and now he's out again doesn't seem great. Same with Amos.

We had a freak year in 2021 when hardly anyone (amd mostly the same players) got injured until around November and in 2022 we can't go 1 game without someone hurting themself. I think it's a bit unfair to call them sick notes.

Probably Dave, but I’ll reserve further judgment until proven otherwise.

You’ve been around a long while. You must have seen Paul Parker take some fearful challenges, lord knows how he got up from some of Fashanu’s, but he did. And that’s my point, it’s a mentality thing as much as physical.

The majority of players going down with fatigue and muscle problems will carry on going down with the same injuries for ever. Warnock alluded to this in an interview during his tenure and explains why his lack of tolerance for this won him so many promotions.

I know it worked as we won but throwing 2 players in who hadn't played a minute in pre season was never gonna end well. Warbs was overly cautious with players last season but you can see why when 2 weeks out means missing 3/4 games

I swear someone kicked a gypsy wearing Hoops (the kicker not the Gypsy) years ago and we've been cursed since.

Also, there is some revisionism there.

Mackie and Faurlin, both great and dedicated players no doubt, only played an average of 20 games a season for us.

On par with Matthew Rose by the way.

It is bizarre all these injuries when by modern standards players are a lot fitter than back in the day. Could there be something in what Glenn Murray was banging on about a couple years back on the playing surfaces being so perfect and unforgiving leading to a higher number of impact and niggling injuries.

The box office is currently injured too, cant get any Blackpool or Rotherham tickets as they are having problems with the system, they've raised this as a high priority Issue.

Warbs used to sub Adel on 60 mins most games, even when we needed a win. Apart from that time when he threw a strop and kept him on for the full game.

You need to protect your key players, last night we did that in dropping Dykes and JoJo to the bench. Expect them back in the full team on Saturday.

zzzzzzzzzz

Mackie and Faurlin suffered some terrible injuries, so understandable. But when they weren’t in plaster they were on the pitch. Mentality.

Mackie had tons of niggly injuries.

How on earth could we possibly know anyway, especially after only three games what a players mentality is like?

‘Mentality’ and ‘Sick Note’ are just buzzwords for the football fan equivalent of tire kickers.

Just thought I would pop in again to continue the chat from last season. As I couldn’t see a match thread, this seems to be a good place to start.

Interesting to hear about your injuries. As it stands we don’t have any real injuries, so Neil will be picking from a full squad, assuming we don’t pick up any injuries tonight, even then I am just expecting 9 or 10 changes for the EFL game.

Saturday was the first time we played two up top and it worked really well. Your comments seem to suggest that you will be short at full back which could be a problem as we are using the wings on both side to good effect.

One stat is that we are currently 18 unbeaten in all competitions and Neil has yet to lose an away game since he came in. As a consequence confidence in high.

I did say I thought it was madness starting Willock and Amos on Saturday...

You either want to try and win the game or not. It's great that you are more knowledgeable than MB. Perhaps we should give you the job

Its going to be a long/depressing season on here.

After Blackburn the club was broken from the top downwards and now all manner of conspiracy theories, sub plots and general giving up because we have a few injuries.

Get a grip please!

You’ll be playing us when we have the thinnest squad available to us in years. That’s not an exaggeration. 1 CB, 1 LB, 2 CM, and 1 wide forward, all out, all of whom would start, bar maybe one of the midfielders, who’d be first off the bench. And this is from a very thin squad which desperately needed 2 full backs and a forward before the end of the window. Our squad will likely have 6/7 players in it who were out on loan last season in lower leagues.

We still have good players in some positions and might be competitive.

But couple the above with a new manager trying to implement a new formation and system, and you really should win. If you don’t you won’t be top half.

To be fair we are realistic and understand that it is a big step up from
L1 so mid table will be seen as a good season by most fans. We are still
At the stage of building a team , so we are still very much a work in progress.

We spend quite a bit on Sport Scientists and use an outside firm to predict injuries and rest players. Doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

Just watched it.

'Barbed' is a good enough word, I think.
He definitely distanced himself from the problem, which is 'interesting' shall we say, as after Saturday he made a point in the two interviews that I saw of stating that he ignored the medical advice by keeping Willock on so long.

2 things

1)Any sports scientist that could guarantee/prevent/predict all injuries wouldn't be working here, in fact he/she wouldn't be working full stop having sold the rights to his/her magic formula

2) Ian Holloway once said you need to assume you'll have 20% of your squad injured/unavailabe at any one time. So 25 man squad, 5 injured, seems about average to me.

Its the world we live in - if hot weather in the summer and snow in the winter is 'news' then so is having 5 players injured I guess.

Just really can't be getting into "Oh he said this, did he mean that" and all the doom and gloom.

Blimey even if we have a good season we're going to lose matches, if there's going to be a forensic autopsy and this much hand wringing after every one, then this forum becomes a poorer place IMHO.

I liked his interview. About time some players have a look in the mirror and grow a pair instead of phoning it in and then thinking the manager will cover for them continually.

Fair point.

I was in bad foem about last night's game as i thought some of our players were lazy, but am trying hard to be positive today.

Great weather here, and out hiking most evenings. Very little to complain about!
