he was in the 30 man squad for the Euros last year so would have played in a friendly, not sure he'd have made the 26 though
One issue Eze might have is that England Euro 24 qualifiers are not great, no easy San Marino games where you can pick the likes of Eze and have a look it's Italy and Ukraine in our group.

It's like a national sport in itself isn't it arguing about who should be the England manager and what should he do. I can already feel this undercurrent bubbling away ready to torch Southgate if things don't go well - and tbf to people who feel that way, if you can't do something having been given that group then criticism will be justified.
I'm interested in alternatives. Toney or Wilson - bit of a toss up really isn't it? Ward Prowse or Gallagher? I don't know really, not a lot to choose, JWP for the set pieces maybe, but it's not a deal breaker is it? I know people don't really like Mount. The centre backs is the once, I'd definitely have Tomori in there, but I quite like how Southgate runs it more like a club squad where people retain faith and the group is kept together through individual peaks and troughs in form, it certainly seems a much tighter group and a better spirit than many England teams before it.
I agree it can be frustrating watching us be so defensive when we've got such good attacking players, and I guess he'll live or die by the idea that this is how you win tournaments. But his tournament record is amazing so far, and again what alternatives now the obvious one has gone to Chelsea? | | | |

Taking Maguire, Phillips and Walker is just plain daft.
Maguire has no form or game time
Phillips hasn't played in months.
Walker not fit, still injured and won't make group games.
I would question Henderson going as well. Dier can cover DM.
Think Tomori should go. Mitchell should be in there as he only has one natural left back.
I also think Toney has to go. I would take Sancho over Henderson as well.
Maguire - Tomori
Walker - Mitchell
Phillips - Sancho
Henderson - Toney
You don't need 6 CM's for two spots. Dier can play in there, Maddison can also and even White has played DM.

Phillips did play last night and he said Walker will be back before the end of the group stages so worth taking.
Maguire is a big risk but not as though we are blessed with players a lot better than him, that defemce looks weak whichever 2 centre halves he picks.
Not seen enough of Tomori or Mitchell, Tomori was awful in champions league but don't watch Serie A so am probably missing something
Whats Sancho done to get in the squad? Been crap for 18 months, is he even in the Man Utd team at the moment?

If I were Tomori I would tell Southgate to shove his squad up his harris , you have a Serie A winner and one of the best defenders in Italy sitting at home twiddling his thumbs for the likes of Dier, Maguire or coady from a poor Everton team, it’s lazy management imo
Phillips hasn’t played so why take him ??? Sean longstaff or Jacob Ramsey would have been much better options

Personally I didn't expect him to go with Maddison and a few others so I think he has included a few we didn't think he would. I understand him taking Walker, less so Phillips and one or two others. Maguire obviously has photos of him f*cking a donkey or something so that was nailed on he would be there and it would be amazing if he ends up scoring the winner in the final. Maguire that is, not the donkey. Unless they are the same? But overall, about as outside the box as we could have hoped for.
To be honest I think the tournament is a total lottery and I would have loved it if all of the nations pulled out in protest and f*cked FIFA up once and for all. |  |
