Thought it deserved it’s own. Predictions?

Especially keen to hear from Rs not based here and outside the bubble.

Even if they lose to France (which I think they will) this has been a proper tournament put together by England.
Scored loads, barely been threatened (and when they were v USA they shut it down to get the point they needed) and managed the whole thing superbly.
It's not been the emotional rollercoaster of other tournaments which has left me slightly cold... but it's been seriously impressive

Excellent points, just the way I feel. There is something special about England this time. A lot of this has been helped by playing in the winter, less time for build up, they are fit as well. We know our deficiencies probably defence, but we have a super range of midfield players and attackers and hopefully belief. We know how to beat France smother Mbappe, Griesman and take the game to them that is our strength.

We look so good going forward. I worry a lot about the speed and quality of our defence playing Mbappe, Dmbele, Giroud et al next Saturday.

We should certainly be concerned about them but equally France will be worried about Bellingham, Kane, Rashford, Saka and Foden.

France have got Pogba, Benzema, Kante and Hernandez all out injured so not a bad time to play them in a World Cup.

Southgate has done an incredible job with England, giving young players a chance and getting a mindset in tournaments to go and enjoy them rather than be terrified. I'd agree I think England will probably lose next week as we're just a bit too weak at the back against an attack like France but we have a blueprint now to go and win things over the next decade.

Don't worry, there will still people who will always have the "he has to go" mentality no matter what happens.

Not saying Southgate is God and of course, like any Manager, will not always get things right but the expectations of some fans is beyond ridiculous.

comfortable win, another clean sheet, 12 goals in 4 games , no bookings
the real cup starts now.

He was getting slated by some on twitter yesterday for not picking rashford, Maddision, Trent etc. Like all managers he makes mistakes and he certainly got the subs wrong in the final last year but he's created something special with England

I was on Nicky Campbell's BBC Radio 5 Live phone in this morning contributing about England's chances, reckon we will go all the way. We have never lost to France in a World Cup finals and in 1966, beat them on the way to the final. We have the players to do it, all about belief and cutting out defensive mistakes. Big plus is Kane is off the mark.

I wouldn't be surprised if Southgate reverts to a back five with Kyle (meep, meep) going in at the right of three and Trippier in front of him at RWB. (5-2-2-1)

I'd be inclined to not get too wrapped up about the Mbappe threat (great as he is) and not forgetting they have a few other decent players. I'd focus more on our players to keep doing the good things they've been doing to get us to this point.

And Lloris is always good for a clanger as well. Nearly managed one yesterday.

Excellent post here , the longer a team goes on the more their top players are missed .Pogba while rubbish for Utd hits the switch when playing for France and without him and Kante that midfield can be over ran.
Benzema is the one loss they can not afford the most in the knockouts IMO and England will be able to contain KM and push forward to win .
England 2 France 1
Plus I just noticed the complete draw Brazil and Argentina meeting in the semi final really opens it up for England to bring it home

Get Kyle Walker to 'Danny Maddix' Mbappe. I'd certainly like to think we wouldn't give him the time and space against us to do what he did to Poland yesterday with his two goals, great finishes though they were.

A bit worried about the matchup between Mbappe and Kyle Walker that everyone's talking about. No doubt, a fully fit and up to speed Walker is the ideal player to have when you're up against such a quick and dangerous player, but understandably Walker looks rusty to me - tried a hit and run last night, a move that when he's fully up to speed he'd usually make but got nowhere near getting round his opponent on the outside. Looks like he's carrying a bit more timber than pre-injury as well.

Look, hope I'm wrong, think Walker's an excellent player, but I worry we've set him up as the only one we have that can really go toe-to-toe with Mbappe but whereas one of these is in peak physical condition, the other is not, although 90 mins yesterday would have done him a lot of good so I will cling to that.

Hello!

I think this has to be Southgate's last tournament no matter how far we go.
As most have said I think France will do us and that will be down to ultra conservative tactics he will undoubtedly put out. Yes we have a rich seam of attacking talent but it's continually shackled - I get that in mini-leagues but this is do or die football now and we've got to go for it, something alien to GS.
As I walked away from Wembley after that final last year I felt he should've gone there and then. He called the approach to that game totally wrong especially after going ahead 2 minutes in.

The young swashbucklers we have need a fresh man at the helm.

Fair play to Southgtate, he's done an amazing job but should've had a title to his name, I suppose he still might, but a changing of the guard is due

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

His ultra conservative tactics has us top scorers to be fair and more knock out wins unde this tenure than between 1968 and 2014.

Years 'n years ago there was a really tall striker, Kevin Francis I think. Every game he'd have players swarming all over him but they just couldn't get to the high balls coming in and he kept scoring with headers.

One game, the opposition manager said to his players not to bother, just focus on cutting out the crosses into him. It worked and they won.

So you think Southgate should be sacked if England win the World Cup beating France, Spain and Argentina in the process?

England struggled for 30 minutes but, after scoring twice, all the fight and enthusiasm seemed to drain out of Senegal.

I would like to think Seny would have saved the 1st, and possibly the 2nd.

how are they shackled? They've scored 6 in one game and 3 in 2 others so far. He could have gone with a far more defensive midfield but hasn't so far.

I get what you mean about the final, although apart from a good 10 minutes from Italy after half time I didn't think there was much in it

I agree, Southgate has been very attack minded so far this World Cup. He lost a little momentum in USA game, but they were set up very well and we got overrun in midfield. He introduced Henderson which has been a masterstroke, he's pumped, supporting Rice and allowing Bellingham to flourish. We probably have the best midfield players in the competition, they are so versatile, even those on the bench. Saturday will be a major test.

I know it sounds mad but these are my feelings which I know were cast from the foundary walking 8 miles home in the pissing rain after the Euro Final

Yes I do.

Tough qualifiers for Euro's after this due to our poor performances in the build up to this tournament - NL etc.
Win the big one and the argument is there but I just think it's time for a freshen up.
