Barbet went back to France for family reasons, I believe was the case stated at the time.
He was never going to stay here.
But initially he wasn't liked and did not perform if memory serves.
Basically though Clarke Salter just as good but ridiculously injury prone.
We seem to have made a habit of signing majority of the injury riddled players available. Barbet was the opposite of that, hence why he was gold.
Probably though appreciated more after he was gone than when he was actually here like many players that have graced these parts !!! |  |

I think he was one of those people who we kept stringing along about offering a contract at the end of the season, so he had no idea what was happening, and he wanted to stay, but we then offered some soft of derisory insulting offer that he naturally rejected, but we could then say 'we offering Barbet a deal but he turned it down...' |  |

Which I guess one of the reasons form dropped that 2nd half of the season.
Warburton wasn't offered another contract either. Imo it caused a lot of unrest in the dressing especially when those upstairs wanted to push for promotion. | |

JCS signing was quite similar to Barbet and Field. They also had problems but it worked out in the long run, similar to Willock which worked out for a while..
I liked Barbet a lot but I’m not sure he’d make a big difference to this team, apart from being available to play of course. We had long losing runs with him playing for us too. |  | | |

I loved Barbet, but let's not forget he could be a liability in a back 4. Superb in a back 3.
JCS I'd argue is at least his equal as a footballer, clearly they're chalk & cheese re fitness / availability. But there were arguably sound reasons behind the swap (age, sell on value etc). |  |

I was once shown a document of the best free agent ball playing centre backs at Championship level based on a whole load of metrics, this was at the time between Barbet leaving us and joining Bordeaux. If I recall Barbet was 29 when his contract was up. JCS was 25 with substantial Championship experience, particularly 30 odd games with Coventry, who wanted him on a perm deal.
It was also rumoured that Yoann wanted to take his family back to France.

My only issue with Barbet was his fitness. Wasn't really 'QPR' and I could never get use to seeing him start week in week out.
