Kicks off next month with the news that Cummins is likely out of the first test and possibly most/all of the series. That helps.

Poll: Kitchen threads or polls?

Just a big whimper really, usual claptrap after the Inevitable defeat.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

It pains me to say this, but this victory for Australia is good for cricket; good for test cricket.

I can only hope that the ECB learn the lessons from this disaster.

Money on 5-0 anyone?

I respect you as a poster Eastside, but you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think the ECB will learn lessons from this. They didn't 4 years ago and they wont now - They are pressing ahead with relegating Red Ball cricket to the side lines. As mentioned above we cant produce spinners due to the time of year we play 4 day cricket and as I mentioned above most of the seamers that play in county cricket here are overseas players

And someone else suggested that test cricket is not important to English fans, I disagree, they will always turn out no matter who is playing in my opinion

Interesting stat, and even this series I have criticised him but apart from Root, only Crawley was the other batsman to average over 35 - Not bad considering he had a pair in the first test

I did say ‘hope’ not expect.

Australia is much more into cricket than England. Its the closest thing they have to a national sport. They don't have an all dominant sport like football, which struggles here. Some states like rugby league, others prefer Aussie rules, but all are into cricket. Only India/Pakistan would really rival them for level of interest.

They're also obsessed with beating England at anything, but especially cricket. We just don't care about them in the same way, despite it always being fun when we do beat them.

Cricket in England is very middle/upper class whereas here its much more the people's sport and what you might call the working class are very into it, whereas that demographic in England is all about football. I don't really ever see that changing either.

England's biggest ground is Lords which I think holds 30k? Every ground Australia is using in this series is far, far bigger than that and I think that reflects the relative interest levels quite well.

It's been a real disapointment, wonder what the fall out will be. Do we rip it all up and start again or learn from this and continue with the same people. I guess a lot will depend on how the last 2 tests go although I thought we played alright in this one, just a little bit short in the first innings really, another 50/60 runs and that might have made a real difference.

Aussies were excellent though and full deerve the win, their bowling has been outstanding

Now the dust has settled, I don't see the point in just ripping it all up and starting again. How about we use all the learnings so that we can get the urn back in 2027, rather than start on yet another cycle.

Especially as McCullum and Stokes appear to have taken on board some of the issues.

I'm with you and Dave B, give the current setup a chance to tweak things.

As Dave rightly says, the team changed their approach to batting in the third test and reined in the attack attack attack mindset, although the damage had already been done in the first two tests, unfortunately.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

like so many previous tours, it seems they go into party mode, jolly up and soak up the sun for months, oh and get paid. few can say they have stood the test .
3-0 down in something like 11 days actually played? not good enough. reckon 5-0 on the cards .
stories coming out of it being a stag do in the set up? we have been dicked.

I feel sorry for people spending a fortune travelling out there for the 4th and 5th test when it's a dead rubber.
I blame the tattoos. I bet Colin Cowdrey wasn't covered in tattoos from head to foot.

I think he was covered in moss, rather than tattoos….

It can still be highly enjoyable.

In early 2003, I went to the Sydney test with a few other English mates. We were 4-0 down and roundly expected to lose 5-0. We'd also lost all the warm up and tour games.

As a result, I wasn't exactly looking forward to it. I will never forget walking into the ground and just seeing English flags everywhere. The huge amount of English support for a team that had been ridiculed for a couple of months was incredible. This is something the Aussies will never have away from home. All you see from them in England is a pretty small bunch of over 55s on some lame tour group thing, all wearing the same outfits. Maybe a few others dotted around.

There had to be at least 10,000 England there and we sang and drank all day long. Michael Vaughan, at the peak of his powers then, hit a tremendous century and England went on to win the match. Despite winning the series easily, the Aussies didn't enjoy this game. Vaughan also got player of the series which really upset the local media.

England's away support really is superb and deserves better than they usually get down here. They're also well used to losing though and being able to have a good time regardless. You're still in a great destination, with warm weather while the UK freezes, beaches, lots of other England fans around to drink with etc. The other thing is there's never a hint of trouble, unlike with football.

Thing is there's no consequence for losing in test cricket. We get another go every 2 years regardless. No relegation, no tough qualifying to get through etc, so for me while annoying to lose its really not that deep. The worst part is the pathetic local media during England tours but I've become very good at ignoring that.

I did the last 3 Ashes tests in 2017-18,and it was a brilliant month spent watching cricket, drinking and just having a great time with like minded people. The only downside for me was on the Saturdays of the Melbourne and Sydney tests when a few youngsters turned up and started singing about German bombers and no surrender.
I guess they were expats who were there on their days off. Most of the genuine barmy army crowd didn’t come back for the afternoon sessions as they possibly knew what to expect.
It was a bucket list event for a lot of people who I traveled with, and I still meet up with a couple of them at QPR away games when we play against their teams.
Even though we lost the series 4-0,the 4th test at the MCG was one that we should’ve won but for steve bloody smith’s knock again.

I’ve since travelled solo to New Zealand and India to watch England play, and I hope to go to a few other countries in the future, but I’m not sure I’d want to go back to watch another Ashes test in Oz again.Even the thought of Christmas in Melbourne wearing shorts and t-shirts doesn’t float my boat as much now that I’ve done it.But I did have a good time and met several other QPR fans out there.

We didn't have any of that no surrender type bollocks when I went, shame to see that crap creeping in at cricket. I've noticed England football fans seem incapable these days of singing the anthem without chanting that nonsense in the middle. Its embarrassing.

Not that it matters a great deal but Archer out for the rest of the series with a side strain...
I suppose we've done well to get three straight tests out of him.
