People have short memories, until 2006 England struggled to make the finals and had some tough groups. I guess they wernt a top seed back then so would usually get drawn in with a decent team like the Dutch, Sweden, Italy before they were crap, Germany and always bloody Poland. |  | | |

I like how Tuchel is sending the message that nobody walks into the team just because of who they are.
Bellingham is a very good player, maybe one day a great one, but his ego is an issue. Nothing wrong with confidence in your ability but you aren't bigger than the team or the manager. Easy to forget he's still only 22 and has plenty of maturing to do.

Not really. Once they expanded the World Cup to 32 teams there weren’t enough good European teams to make each of any of the qualifying leagues competitive.
It’s reduced my interest in any World Cup from 2 years to about 2 weeks as even the open round leagues will be yet another walkover to the knock out stage.
Couldn’t tell you who’s in the England team, single interest at the moment is getting Jimmy to the finals. |  | | |

Not necessarly true, the World Cup expanded to 32 teams in 1998 and England scraped qualification in their last match for both 98 and 2002 where they had Italy and Germany respectively, to overhaul. As I say, from 2006 onwards, theyve pretty much always been the top seed which makes life a lot easier granted. | | | |

You can only beat what's put in front of you.
The UEFA nations thing has killed the concept of friendlies and European countries not in the top league will suffer if they can't tee up games against the top South American teams in the congested football schedule.
Compare with the 'friendlies' in rugby union. Theyvare full on battles that carry meaning and which you can see if a player and a team has the minerals required. The FA will hope England are in the latter WC groups as it might offer a chance to get one on before the WC. However, at that stage, it will be tippy-tappy stuff.
That said: eight wins and no goals conceded is as good as you can hope. But come next year, there's a step up required but we do have some cracking players. Anyway, well done England! |  |

many can recall the dark times when england missed out on many cup finals , 74,78,94 etc so great to qualify, unbeaten and none conceded but it WAS a poor group , what did we learn? can we dig ourselves from a hole? come back from being behind? was any goalie tested?
we now have just 2 friendlies before the world cup finals and to have any chance of winning we will have to beat germany, brazil, france and the like along the way so will need at least one testing game.
john stones is too fragile and i would not take him , foden still confuses many. henderson, no.
