Beautiful goal sublime skill.

Also what about Kieran Morgan’s goal away at Watford, that was a broadside 18 pounder, a real thunder b’stard

And last couple of performances, many posters on here, were saying Kone would struggle to perform in league two.

It really was a marvellously deft piece of skill - I note Kone's word for it in the entertaining video on the Offish was 'instinctive'. A perfick marriage of instinct and technique then. (I think Kolli came up with 'sublime'.)

I've certainly been one who was starting to get a bit frustrated with him, incuding on the Cov match thread, so his goal and overall display really shoved my words down my throat. I'd say that was one of his best performances of the season, if not the best. He looked so much happier - and more threatening - positionally speaking, and I also thought his hold-up/link play and general involvement were notably enhanced.

Clearly, a big issue for Richard is the, shall we say, variable quality of service he gets from Smyth and Dembele. JS needs to be hammering this on the training ground - hit Kone (not literally) from right, left, corners, free kicks, drop kicks . . . again and again and again. When Madsen looked up, executed a quality cross (albeit with far more time than Cov should have given him), that's what we get. More please. Can we have some more?

Assuming he doesn't twang a hamstring in the vicinity of Ellerslie Road, he should aim for 15 goals this season, anything around which would be a really excellent return.

Looking ahead, when Burrell finally comes back, we still have our original problem about how we set up up top, but we must - must - play to his now obvious strengths.

Poll: A little over halfway through the season, where do you see us finishing?

I've noticed it in recent games and I think they mentioned it in the joint Kone and Madsen interview post match, there's definitely a lot more focus on Kone attacking that near post. If any of our players can find that ball, with Madsen that's not a problem, whether it's a genius finish like on the weekend or a flick onto someone else, it's going to cause issues. Probably not since Austin we've had some a striker command that 6 yard box.

I also hope some fans who were giving Kone grief before, now see what happens when he plays in his actual position. I don't think it was fair to judge him based on his shifts in the 10, I think JS will learn from that too

Fair comment for a player like Smyth, I think for us he is a lot more effective on the right, taking players on the outside and being encouraged to drill the ball across the 6 yard line. On the left he can hesitate and really mess up with his decision making in final 3rd.

Saito on the left is undisputed for me, he can comfortably take on defenders inside and out, shown straight away with his linkup with the goal vs Coventry. That's what I'd want to see on Friday

I don’t mind Smyth down the left I think him and RND work really well together. Agree that it doesn’t always work in the final third but I think we look really solid defensively with those two. Hopefully Saito can find a bit of form to give us a bit more flair on that side, especially with Dembele now unavailable on the right.

You're not wrong at all and in fairness Smyth's best season did come from playing on the left. I believe in Saito on that left though, along with Vale and Madsen that should have plenty enough creativity to make some goals happen

when smyth was at orient he played on the left and scored i think ten goals , with the players out id say saito on the left and smyth on the rhgt and have a go at them , oh and the leave the 3 men up front for corners as well just to annoy the welshman some more

Yeah I mentioned that in my last post, his best season was on the left so it can work, just think for what we need he is a lot more effective on the right. In agreement with that approach for Charlton for sure

Kone has got it. He’s had a dramatic rise from Newham division 11 or wherever. This lad is a natural born goalscorer. Mystifies me that posters (W*nkers Elbow, Upper Loft W*nker, Arsey W*nker etc.) slag him off. I read people’s comments on here and it’s obvious who’s never played the game. Snobbery of sorts perhaps but I’m sick of reading ignorant b*llsh*t. Viva King Kone!

W@nkers elbow! Ha ha. A brilliant and apt nickname for our resident misanthrope.

And what could also be a brilliant medical diagnosis for the long-standing pain in my right arm.

Wow, what a goal, when you see it at that angle. It's the movement too. Forget the finish, your Dykes and Celars aren't even making that run.

Dont forget, many here think Kone is slow and fat... Still managed to get to the right spot at the right time

do they? Hadn't seen that.

I was in the Lower Loft and couldn't work out how, as the ball seemed to come in square to him, he'd managed to score. It's only on the replay where you can see just how good a goal it is. Add in the build up play and the quality of Madsen's ball into the box, it's one of the very best I've seen in the flesh. Outstanding

A small mention for Bennie's square ball to Vale. Yes it was simple - but extremely accurate, and perfectly weighted. It enabled Vale to hit the ball. with equal precision and weighting, out to Masden. That is what made it such a lovely move. It's all in the detail.
