JCS to Watford must all depend on how much they're willing to pay. He must be in the last year of his contract so it won't be a lot - Transfermarkt has a value of ÂŁ800k.

So far he's been pretty good this season. Could we find an affordable replacement of similar quality? I don't think Akindileni is ready to step up.

He is not in the last year of his contract. He “committed to the club on a long term basis” in late September 2024. https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/202 . As posted and supported by Clive, he has this season and next (at least) under contract.

I suspect this is the club alerting other clubs that he’s on the block. Watford gain nothing from any leak. He’s fit and starting and we’re at the end of the transfer window.

Okay. I've always thought that these days, a 3 year contract was seen as long term.

The line 'in the last few days of the window' suggests a low-ball offer for a squad player, rather than a priority target.

If they make a reasonable offer, I think we'll take it.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

29 years old, horrific injury record, 3rd choice CB? I'd sell him all day long. Dunne, Edwards, Morrison, Mbengue see you through the season - and if you can't find a youngster to fill in for 1 or 2 games if you have 3 injured CBs then that doesn't say much about the DS.

Interesting other clubs interested.

A lot of fans furious that his contract was extended.

On social media there is a site called QPR Central which is suggesting he is valued at ÂŁ400,000. That sounds a bit rude given his ability.

It would be a shame to see him go as such an assured presence but as we keep reminding ourselves we are a development club. But need to be for better money.

We don’t know if other clubs are interested, Stainrod. This has almost certainly been leaked by QPR not Watford (what would they stand to gain?).

I don’t have a problem with that. He has this and next season left on his deal. His injury record is terrible. He’s currently fit and playing. We’re in a transfer window. We may need to create salary space to get in another midfielder. Good moment to try to sell him. I just wouldn’t take much/anything that is in the press or on social media about QPR at face value; there is a lot of manipulation going on. Not that it’s an unusual strategy in football and the end might justify the means.

When fit, he is one of the best in the division, but sadly this is all too rare.

When Madsen/Kamara/Varane are back and Edwards moves back into CB he is 3rd choice (although I think he is probably a better player than Dunne, he cannot be replaced).

Morrison and Mbengue are good enough cover.

Would take 1-1.5mil shake hands and move on.

I’m pretty sure he, Field, and Chair were all awarded 4 yr deals in that spell to be the future spine of the side.

Anyway, now is a good time to sell, if that’s what we want to do (and I can see why). His salary will be very chunky and his availability has been poor. Fully fit, he’s class and worth a lot (rumoured clubs were interested at hefty fees when he was awarded that extension), but he so rarely is. Shows the danger of awarding long contracts if you can’t keep them fit and available. However, get him off the book and we might be able to strengthen elsewhere before the window closes, which seems a decent ploy. With Lamptey, Mbengue can be CB cover, and Cirkin can fill in there too. Plus you have Morrison as back up with Edwards and Dunne as the long term starters too.

For both QPR transfer news and general current affairs, telling people not to believe everything they read on the internet hasn’t exactly worked…

If Watford are genuinely willing to spend legal tender on a guy who barely makes 10 appearances a year, then they’re even more mental than we thought

I'm not sure I agree with you Hunter. JCS is on a list of seven targets that have been leaked to Sky Sports: https://the72.co.uk/2026/08/25

That feels more like Watford leaking their targets to try and drive down the price by playing them against each other. QPR wouldn't have access to the whole list, and would gain nothing from leaking that Watford have multiple targets.

He's a quality footballer, only sell if financially it makes a significant difference and a similar replacement is identified, available and affordable.

We are supposed to be building a squad that has two good players for every position, can rotate considerably more and better than previous seasons, as well as, mounting a serious challenge this season. JCS, if he stays, will have to be carefully managed and used sparingly but is better than the other options. In some ways, he's even better than Edwards in that LCB position as he is naturally a 'leftie'.

Morrison seems to have regressed, Akindelini probably isn't ready, Cirkin and Lamptey have yet to prove their fitness and durability and it looks like Kemper will be out mid to long term.

Why does that drive down the price? Clubs so desperate to sell they’ll start under bidding each other as to what they’re willing to sell for? “1m? Ours is £500k’ No, have ours for £300k, Watford!”

QPR have an external PR firm on the books, gents…

If an offer comes in from any club and it's around 1 million, I would keep him.
At this moment in time he is fitting in really well and in my opinion is by far the best centre back at the club.
The only issue is to keep him fit.
A million pounds is a lot of money to most of us but in the grand scheme of things at a football club at Championship level it is not so much.
If an offer comes in, in excess of 2 million then have another think.

It states that Watford have 7 targets in mind & Clarke-Salter was the 5th or 6th mentioned. If there is any truth in this report, they will sign the player who will cost the least rather than the best suited.

I can't see that being JCS. Or that we would accept below 7 figures.

If it did happen, Cirkin is another player who can play at centre half, but I don't know if that was in a back 3 or back 4 for Sunderland.

" have to be carefully managed and used sparingly"

There's the rub.

No doubting his quality but when you're working to a budget your best ability is availability, the return for outlay just hasn't been there (unless nearing Contract renewal cough cough).

Not sure where his car chaffeur business is based but if it's North of Rickmansworth I'd say he'd want to go himself.

I'm more than happy with Dunne, Edwards, Mbengue and Morrison as the 4 to cover 2.
As said, Cirkin can shuffle in there and as an emergency you've got to give Akindelini a shout or maybe another DS lad????

Anything over ÂŁ500k and take it for me.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

If you say so. I don’t know that. QPR did not until about 18 months ago, just over, although initially it wasn’t “on the books”, so to speak.

If Watford are genuinely interested, then great. As I have repeatedly said above, now is a good time to sell for a variety of reasons.

All I’ve said is don’t believe everything you read in the press and on social media related to QPR. I do not see how Watford benefit in the slightest from leaking who their targets are. The agents of the players will already be aware. QPR do everything they can to try to ensure no one knows who they are targeting. That is the name of the game for everyone bar the biggest sides in the world.

I’d very much expect the club have had a hand in this/approved it, because they want to drum up interest. Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Sometimes it helps to let the seller know that you have alternatives if they are playing hardball on the price.

Watford Twitter reckons they are looking at seven defenders, including 3 centre backs.

They must have emptied the shelves at Udinese!

Who said anyone is wrong about anything? Just saying it’s likely leaked/approved by QPR. Do you disagree with that? Do you think QPR have been blindsided by this news?

Watford may be interested. Hopefully more clubs are, for our sake.

But fine. Watford are interested in JCS. QPR blindsided. But also possibly want to sell. Or don’t. Whichever you prefer.

Indeed. But the club will know that. JCS’s agent will know that. If Watford had wanted to use that as leverage they’d have told the clubs they were negotiating with that they were also speaking with several other vendors about several other players. It’ll have been the first recourse if the selling club was being difficult.

The only reason to go public is to alert a host of parties who aren’t aware any of this is going on, which is in the interests of the sellers, in case anyone else fancies making the buying process more competitive.

Anyway, if people want to believe the club have been blindsided by this, then fine. I thought the general consensus was that our leadership were a bit more savvy in the transfer market than that, especially given how little the club publicise related to our transfer dealings. But hey, maybe I’m giving them too much credit.
