If anybody is offering genuine cash for JCS that’s hilarious. Have we checked the currency?
Not sure we should play him Saturday if this is the case - if you’re selling a boat with a hole in it don’t sell it on the river.

This.
Anything over £500K for JCS, sell him.

Sure, hes one of the best in the division, but hes also the most injury prone in the squad and this is QPR so, thats saying a lot!
We would also save on his wages, and we all know that he will get injured again.

Then we could get either a fast CD replacement or a Dunne II backup CB. If Dunne gets injured, who is making someone like Coburn, Leaburn, or Bishop?

Sell him!

zzzzzzzzzz

The fact that they haven’t ripped someone’s cock off to get that deal signed makes me more suspicious than anything from the clubs previous form that it’s nonsense.

If anyone was offering even £1 to get that wage shifted off our bill the club would surely be clambering over women and children to get it done.

500k would be ridiculous, we lose all that experience and he looks like he might stay fit for a large chunk of this season. Rather take a punt and keep him on the books, he signed a long term deal in Sept 2024 and when fit gives us so many more options.

I do agree it's crazy he is on anyone's radar though.

On the occasions that he is fit he is actually very good. Unless it's a stupid offer then definitely keep him.

Never knowingly right.

In fairness that’s GCSE economics 1.1; minimal demand, high supply = reduced price.

Yes, for goods and commodities, where the vendor must sell (because they are a vendor of such goods or commodities and it is their business). We’re talking about a few footballers at some football clubs here. You’re working on the basis all the clubs must sell these specific players in question. But, if they did, they’d have a done a deal with Watford straight away, wouldn’t they? Do you really think Watford felt all 7 selling clubs were demanding too much, so they told the media in the hope they’d clamber over themselves to drop their prices? They can sell other players too, and sell to other clubs. It’s not the same as the GSCE economics you’re talking about. A bit more nuanced, maybe A-Level.

Anyway. I’ve said more than enough on the topic now.

I agree, if any club is offering hard cash for him (preferably 7 figures) and he is in his final year then I would cash in. He is good when fit but that isn’t often enough.

It's a tough call. If he goes for £500k and plays regularly for Watford, the club gets criticised for selling too cheap. If he stays and suffers another injury, the club gets criticised for not selling when it had the opportunity. He is in the final year of his contract (not sure if it includes an option to extend). Given this, and his patchy fitness record, selling would appear a wise move. However, IMHO £500K isn't anywhere near enough. In January, that figure would feel right, but right now, no.

How about £500k now and £250k after 20 games and another £250k after a further 20?

IMHO that’s a deal
It might take us 3 years to get the other £500k though

I can't see any reason to sell JCS.

What we going to get - maybe £800k maximum.

Clearly currently he is the third best centre back, but on form he is the best.

He could be available for more than half the season and could come on as sub cover when other injuries happen etc

Yes he could also get injured in the next game, but then in reality so could anyone else. Appreciate he has a greater probability for injuries, but when available he is always likely to have involvement as either a starter or coming on as sub.

This does appear to be the season we are going for it and for the sake of £500k, when some of these players have the potential going forwards for up to £10 million, I cant see any reason unless our medical team know better, that we couldn't keep hold of a quality player who may or may not be widely used and available.

Definitely keep JCS for me.

And feel free to gather rotten tomatoes when he goes off injured away at Blackburn this Saturday !!

Maybe I’ve missed something obvious or not reading between the lines, skim reading, Hunter, but…..

A footballer under contract is a commodity, otherwise no club would ever get a fee for one. Like any commodity, they’re worth what someone’s prepared to pay for them. That’s determined by supply and demand. Low demand (I.e. one club looking to sign two centre backs), high supply (I.e. seven centre backs) means that the buying club can go to the selling clubs and buy the cheapest. If one of the other clubs wants to sell they’re going to have to drop the price. Now, of course, they don’t have to do that and, if they don’t think it worthwhile to do so, will simply not sell the player.

Conversely, when you’re selling you want a few clubs to be interested to drive the price up I.e low supply (one player) high demand (multiple clubs).

It seems entirely reasonable to believe Watford have made it clear they’re shopping around so that a club, late in the transfer window, might sell at a discount, rather than lose the sale. I don’t know if that has happened, of course, but it doesn’t seem implausible.

Agree to disagree.

Not sure how I feel about JCS potentially going.

Head says if we get a good bid he has to go. of course.

If it's a relatively small bid more tricky for me. Logic suggests we should sell, chances of him playing lots unknown but historically unlikely, would free up wages to potentially bring someone else in.

However if we assume a 3 of JCS, Dunne and Edwards, that's a pretty amazing 3 choices at Centre Back and we can possibly manage JCS, and he can provide cover if and when Edwards goes into midfield (assuming he moves back once Madsen returns).

Can we get more bodies in freeing up his wages - yes - will they potentially have as much influence - possible but that is the big unknown.

I would hope the club have a better view on his physical state / risk for this season.

Keeping him is a risk of course. Taking money is a no brainer really, but heart says I'd be quite pleased to keep him and take the risk - I have a feeling about this season and he is a player who can make a difference. Historically that's probably what we have done and I think this management team are a bit colder (a good thing) and will sell if a bid comes in.

For me this is in the win win category, if we sell it's a win, if he stays it's a win. Pure cold business strategy you probably have to sell.

If someone has seriously offered money for Salter clarke then we need to be personally gift wrapping him up and sending him on his way.

Good player? yes but Will be out injured by mid October? yes.

See one of my earlier posts. They could and would have told all the clubs they’re speaking to that they’re speaking to the other six about their players already, in private, in early negotiations. It won’t suddenly be news to those 7 clubs when it goes public. They’ll know already. A buyer will have already used that tactic.

And the logic you’re referring to doesn’t apply if the sellers don’t want or need to sell anyway or can sell to a different buyer. It’s simply not the same thing as market economics for goods and commodities, where the seller has to sell because that is their entire business. We could choose not to sell, to sell another player, or to sell later.

Anyway, let’s move on.

Yep it seems pointless selling him for a low amount: good player when he’s fit like he is at the moment and knowing our luck we’d ’cash in’ now only for Jimmy or Ronnie to pick up a nasty injury the day after the window closes and we’re then short on numbers and quality at centre back.
If we get a high offer with enough time to bring in a younger fitter replacement then of course do it though.

Summer transfer rumours 2026 on 09:07 - Aug 26 with 2454 viewsMedwayR

If JCS had left this summer at the end of his contract no one would’ve been too fussed. The majority would’ve viewed him as a good player when fit but not available often enough & on a good wage so not a major loss.

Now we’ve allegedly got people offering money the sentiment is different and we should keep him?

I like him as a player and he seems a decent bloke too, but if money is on the table are we really in a position to keep him and gamble on him staying fit, I’d say not. Take the money & reduce the wage bill.
