Kealey Adamson and Tylon Smith played like the were shit-scared passing the ball forwards. They looked petrified every time they got the ball in case they might not find one of ours with a pass, so immediately it went backwards, apart from two long balls from Tylon in injury time, when the situation was desperate I would be surprised if either of them had positive passing yards in that game. The left hand side of the Swansea team will never ever have an easier game - "that right back isn't ever going to test us with a run or a pass forwards, so just relax and press the player he is going to inevitably pass back to".

I'm all for giving the kids a good run out but it is pointless if they do not pay with any freedom whatsoever, especially in games where the result is not the be all and end all.

Harsh. Though he had a very nervous first few minutes, he settled down and rescued us a couple of times with his pace when Swansea were breaking. Undoubtedly reluctant to cross and having another new boy coming in next to him didn’t help either, but I thought he did OK overall - I wasn’t missing Mbengue!

Given that Mbengue can cross a ball to anywhere between Kone's nogging and the astronauts on the Artemis rocket, surely QPR could have tried to encourage the Aussie to narrow that range down a bit, and give us a potential chance. Or, am I just being way to ambitious with my hopes.

I bet the bloke in the Upper Loft was breathing a sigh of relief when Mbengue was on the bench and he could just watch the game as opposed to having to try and control one of Mbengue's crosses.

Two pups (I think KA making his full debut and TS might be one of his first appearances) and we're what, expecting them to come in and play like Maldini and Baresi from the off?

Of course they're going to be nervous at the step-up and maybe more focussed on not cocking up as opposed to looking like a Ronnie Edwards. Thought KA did ok, TS will learn from his rash challenge which was never a pen, wasn't even in the same post code as the penalty area.

That said wasn't as if those around them were playing so well, that the pair could blend in effortlessly into the mix.

If anything, it's further evidence that our pups need to be playing proper mens footy in League 1 or 2, and getting 30 plus games under their belts asap.

Oh, could one of them get a haircut so we can distinguish who's the Aussie and who's the Sarfie.

If you add in Kolli, Vale could have a natural supply of new hair for years.

The ability to play with freedom or be largely uninhibited when making a full debut in the starting eleven, is an innate quality and is commensurate to your playing ability.

Morgan made his starting eleven debut under very intense pressure v Sunderland, as we had such a poor start to the season: 2024 to 2025, yet wasn't inhibited or fazed by the occasion. For he and Kolli, whose starting eleven debut was v WBA, I believe; are both patently of a higher calibre to any of their counterparts that have followed them since.

I feel for Adamson and Smith - both way out of their depth in different respects.

I can't imagine Adamson will be he much longer. He's 23, by which age he should be challenging for a starting place or at the very least getting minutes in rotation. When he has appeared, it's clear that this level is above him.

So far this season he's been in the squad 21 times, started once, subbed on five times. When we've had suspensions and injuries, he's either been an unused sub or not in the squad. That says a lot.

Smith, it's clear is an age and experience thing. Very young (only 20), very raw, but could develop - too early to tell.

Having said that, in his last two appearances, he's given away two penalties for amateur tackles - irrespective that yesterday wasn't even in the box, it was a silly challenge to make.

No way he gets a League 1 or 2 loan. Perhaps a National League side to get him playing adult football at a fairly speedy pace would help?

Not at all. The title of the thread references playing with freedom and considering that includes Adamson's full debut, yesterday, comparing that to Morgan's is hardly unreasonable especially the additional pressure that surrounded Morgan's.

Yet he wasn't inhibited.

The problem with this (and I agree with you BTW) is if you're a League One manager going into next season at somewhere like Doncaster, Bromley, Barnsley and you're thinking, right, I've got 46 league games here, three cup competitions, multiple three game weeks, challenged budget, long old winter... you're looking for people you're going to be able to rely on to play every week at a reasonable level, to keep you in that league, and to keep you in a job.

Are you looking at Kealey Adamson, Esquerdinha, people like that, and thinking he's the man for me? We'll sign him, he'll do 40 games as my full back, and we won't have a problem there.

Look at Mansfield's squad and the profile of players Nigel Clough signs there.

Development league is bllx. They need to be playing men from the age of 18 upwards.

In fairness to the club Nourry did say he wants 16 and 17yo playing in NL South or higher.
It's the only way to toughen them up.

As for Adamson. Completely out of his depth, 23yo and will be sold in the summer. Anyone who saw him play against Stevenage in the pre season friendly would know he is not for this level. To the MLS I say!!!

One of the big problems we have is for the last 10 years we've talked about Development and players learning in the first team but we're a club in the second tier of English football, this isn't an under 8's game where you learn how to pass, move and defend they should know this by now.

The kids in the first team should be at least league one level and ready to improve to become a championship one and then beyond that. We have so many kids who come into the team and can't do the very basics well enough, they are not even National League level playing in the Championship all because we want to say look our average age is low and we bring x amount of players through to the first team. Whether they are good enough or not seems low down on the list of priorities.

He did and unfortunately for us the man alongside him John Eustace will be bringing a well drilled possibly play off team to QPR on Saturday. Sort of fear a bit of a drubbing if we don't play our better players in this game, anyway we need to be competitive for us punters turning up. I don't want to see another last home game of the season like last year against Burnley when they ripped us apart. We deserve better than that.

Interesting Marc Bircham’s recent comment on QPR podcast about some players seemingly being more interested in their own stats - eg: ball retention / successful passes completed as this is what gets them noticed on the club and scouts’ algorithms - obviously no algorithm will reward a brilliant yet risky pass.

I wonder if these kids (and some of the main squad) are more worried about their algorithms than playing a forward pass?

It was an interesting comment and is food for thought about the level of ‘over-coaching’ we’re all suffering the effects of.

It's not why any of us turn up but there's something in giving Adamson in particular a couple of cheap games at the end of the season - he immediately has some kind of resale value (assuming he's still under contract) that we can reinvest into some additional bag checkers in Ellerslie Road to form an even bigger human barrier to stop people getting into the ground.
