Sorry I didn't see you at Issacs as I gave up waiting in the queue. As a resident I honestly thought 10.30 would be more than early enough to gain entry! I take no pleasure in our "performance" being exactly what I had described to Ipswich fans all week, even though I thought it was slightly better than I had expected. As you said on your way out of the ground, that just showed how low my expectations were!

Thank you Clive - Spot on as always and captured the frustrations we are all feeling perfectly with some fantastic humor that somehow can bring a smile and laugh out of yet another weak and feeble performance.
Such a shame I was looking forward to the last few games a chance to finish the season strongly in the top half and go into the summer with optimism and a spring in our steps. Instead we are left frustrated, angry with a sour taste.
Maybe I'm reading to much into it but did anyone else think it was strange there was no post match interview with JS.
Finally Clive just to add to Simmo's brilliant summary your writing makes a huge difference to the wellbeing of us "retired cab drivers" so a massive thanks for all your incredible efforts this year. One moment Saturday that summed us up was in the first half, us 2 down, Ipswich had a corner, we decided to leave Chair & Vale up on the halfway line, hoping for a swift counter attack. Great idea.

Thanks Clive, terrific as always! Just one tiny caveat, our record against the top 5 is dreadful, but surely it should be against the top 6? Our double over Hull is conveniently forgotten to make your point! I know I'm splitting hairs but come on! Sorry, your efforts are much appreciated! Let's all cross fingers for next season! |
I have to agree with Northern to exclude Hull. I excluded them from the 33 goals we conceded to the top 5. If you want to count Hull then that is fine as we did win but still conceded 3 in the process so 36 shipped to the top 6, nearly half the goals we conceded all season to just six clubs.
Anyway the reason I excluded Hull and focused on the top five, was simply because only the top five were in the hunt for automatic promotion. Hull could easily have been replaced by Derby or Wrexham on the final day for the last play off spot. There was a gap between fifth and the rest so clearly the top five were a cut above. I can't speak for Northern but understand why he would look at the gap between us and Middlesbrough of 22 points. Neither club has parachute money but a huge difference on the pitch.
It is interesting some think we have improved but the final league table doesn't lie that it was negligible on previous seasons. If you want to see an example of an on field improvement then Hull is it. Nearly relegated last season, yet this season they spent most of the season in a play off place and just about stayed there until the last few games before snatching 6th back. |  | | |
