For anyone who doesn't know Boro caught someone with some very sophisticated cameras and recording equipment spying on one of their training sessions.
Apparently Boro are looking into the possibility that Saints have done this to other teams this season.
Nightmare timing for the EFL. I can't see any way for them to fudge this

They are a disgrace, cheated all through second half of the season, if they get away with it in the short term this will all come out in the summer and be far worse for them.

It would be totally insane.
They've now just told Middlesbrough that they are playing in what would be the biggest game of most if not all of their players. And for the club the biggest financial windfall and most importantly the fans, the biggest match and day out they will have for years, even decades.
They can't then suddenly snatch that back.
Here's a conspiracy theory. Tottenham finish 22nd but don't get relegated because they can't solve this playoff issue. The Premier League would love that. |

Exactly right.
They've won nothing yet and have admitted cheating throughout the season.
From what I have been reading Saints are appealing the punishment and believe they should have received something on a par with what Leeds got for spying on Derby.
The rules have been changed since then.
Leeds was a one-off, which this clearly isn't.
We've also had the stiff penalties handed down to Canada Women for cheating in the Olympics. Whilst that isn't binding here it was a decision by FIFA (who govern the world game) and IIRC that decision was upheld by CAS.
I think Saints are clutching at straws, but I suppose we would too.
Looking at the online comments even some of Saints own fans have become disillusioned with how the club has behaved and wants them to take the punishment, clean house, and start repairing the damage.
With their squad starting next season with a four point penalty is not much of a handicap. | | | |

really surprised that southampton didn't persuade the intern involved to claim he was acting alone - it's not like he's breaking any criminal law and all the punishment dished out to the club would have been avoided |

Unless I am mistaken are we not still paying the £42m fine we got in 2018…so no missing the Playoff final and docked 4 points is not so big a deal. You cheated you got found out so take your punishment…see in the championship next season . | | | |
