Southampton haven't yet denied these allegations!
For anyone who doesn't know Boro caught someone with some very sophisticated cameras and recording equipment spying on one of their training sessions.
Apparently Boro are looking into the possibility that Saints have done this to other teams this season.
Nightmare timing for the EFL. I can't see any way for them to fudge this

Well I always said that about the idea Leicester won the Premier League title with Wes Morgan and Robert Huth at centre back because Claudio Ranieri used to ring an imaginary bell. In cycling you there wouldn't even be a doubt what that was about. |
I mean it’s not even a badly kept secret these days is it? Nobody seriously believes Leicester went from rock bottom of the total KMs run chart and high intensity sprints chart to clear top of both over a 3 month pre-season without some TUE’s.
They set the playbook for Klopps ‘heavy metal football’ where it later emerged 75% of the team had TUEs for asthma inhalers that coincidentally improve aerobic endurance in non-asthmatics but required them to have an off cycle every other season.

And then just before the FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Man City , both these teams are announced the day before the final that both are to play in Ismithian League as from.next season, but both to play the Cup Final the day after, so the ultimate dual humiliation.

"There is currently no framework in place regarding a suitable sanction should Southampton be found guilty. Possible options include a fine, a points deduction or throwing Southampton out of the play-offs."
No framework of sanctions established for the guilty party if convicted? Seriously?

Earlier this season Swindon were done for fielding two ineligible players and thrown out of the EFL Cup thing for the lower leagues, they basically messed up the team sheet paperwork so the EFL have shown they are not afraid of throwing someone out

Southampton cheated. Middlesbrough lost, possibly due to the cheating.
Fine Southampton - this can be appealed and argued forevermore.

Some sports lawyer online reckons that if found guilty (ho ho) Soton will stay in the final, but be deducted points for the next season they start in the Championship, whenever that may be.
I guess that is possible, but considering most Championship clubs are prepared to bankrupt themselves to make the promised land in the first place, I don't think it is much of a deterrent for the future.

If you do this during the league season the punishment wouldn't be we throw you out of the playoffs, it should be a points deduction and a fine and that should be the same whenever you do it. For me it would be 3 points for every game you have done this for and a strong 500k fine

Not being following this thread to any great degree but it astounds me that in this day and age a football club would send a spy to rival club, even for a fixture as lucrative as this. The people who sanctioned this should be fired/banned, incredible. | | | |
