I thought the referee got it right, but I've not looked at it again. Firstly, it was stupidity to put his arm out & make contact with the ball, but that doesn't mean it is a penalty! The defenders feet & his left arm were outside the area, but the ball hit his right arm & IMO that was inside the area.
Blackburn were definitely the better team & would have deserved the victory in what was to me, a surprisingly watchable game. | | | |

I was surprised as well Hunter that he gave a penalty, but for once (and it definitely won't be often!) I'm giving praise to the referee for giving the correct decision instead of the easy one.

I did say in the season preview I wasn't sure about this 'us against the world' narrative that Southampton were just going to hit the ground running and be fine. How many of those players want to be there? How many of them are pissd off with Eckert for what happened?
