Best for me….the temperature controlled pub cellar - in weather like this, the beer used to come up like tepid tea. Some said beer was always cloudy in stormy weather but I don't think so.

Worst for me……..the synthesizer, by a country mile.

I'm going to be really nerdy here and say 'electricity'. Or more to the point, the ability to create, harness, store, distribute etc. Without it we'd still be in the 17th century.

Worst invention?.... Probably a chocolate fireguard.

During the Spanish Civil war there was a fascist general called Gonzalo de Aguilera Munro who used to do public broadcasts extoling the Francoist rhetoric. One of his famous statements was lamenting the invention of sanitation because he felt it artificially elevated the working classes beyond their role as slave stock by letting them live longer

Always depends how it affects you. So I would say Stents. Maybe we should make it more obscure ones. E.g. all clubs were going broke before the introduction of turnstiles stopped people letting in their mates half price and putting the money in their pockets. So turnstiles for one. Worst - vacuum packs.

Best - can't decide between the pill or the aeroplane. The former allowed woman to take control over their lives and facilitated worry-free shagging. The latter opened up the world.

Worst - the device that allows mobile phones, tablets etc. to go on to speakerphone! Anyone who has a loud conversation over speakerphone in public, is a c..t and should be battered.

I was going to say the alphabet. I accept there are many of them around the world, but the principle of my call remains the same.

If people insist on suggesting that's not an invention, then I'll suggest the printing press, which facilitated education for the masses as well as providing records of human history over time.

To put the importance of this in context, where would your workplace be without an Ops Manual?
