| Rayan Kolli scores for development squad on 14:22 - Aug 10 by nick_hammersmith | I think keeping players older than 21 kicking around at DS level when they have 0 or little professional apps isn't great for the players themselves. Eze and Chair were probably at a similar age to Rayan is now when they went to Wycombe, although Rayan probably has more first team mins already? If they are released young enough, like Eze was then there is still time to build a decent career The club was/is desperate for homegrown talent to succeed and prove that investment in youth and the attached model. This is why we played players like Kakay for so long, when he wasn't really at Championship level. |
Kakay was knocking off 28 Championship appearances in a QPR team that finished 9th when he was 21. He played 23 in his final season, leaving aged 25. Kealey Adamson is 23, 24 in March, playing in the same position. How many games will he complete for QPR this season? Neither are first team first or second choices. But Kakay completed 98 games for QPR, at a time when we financially had to blood youth (and he replaced Furlong, another homegrown). He was limited but will Adamson play as often or just drift away to the MLS? I suspect he will not contribute as often. And unlike Kakay, who came through every age group, Adamson cost around £200k, plus agent fees. Let's not pretend anything has changed, really. QPR will always need a Kakay or Adamson in its squad. LF, CR, PF etc produced from the Dev/U23s/whatever Championship players like Eze, Chair, Manning, Dieng and, yes, Lumley, Kakay, even Kelman. Kolli was built through the groups by PF, CR, AI, MH - all gone, all could've maybe made a difference now. Better crop than the previous decade. Still waiting to be matched now.

I think the significant change I can see is that players like Harry Murphy, who was captain of the DS and I thought looked very tidy were released early than maybe they would have been in the previous regime. When we are losing £2m a month the £200k for Adamson isn't a lot in the grand scheme. I think these player acquisitions are gambles, if they work great, if they don't then the club move on, its a ruthless business. I think the club have a list of the graduates on the wall at the training ground, and there are lots of players who have come through and gone on to have good careers, just maybe not at QPR. Hopefully the move to CAT1 means we won't lose prospects to Liverpool or Fulham anymore. But, in order to do this we have to treat our current prospects well and show pathways. If I'm a parent of a gifted young boy and the academy were courting them Id be concerned about whats happening with Kolli, as it looks like he is being mismanaged at the moment for whatever reason

that is presuming its all down the the club handling the talent , if the talens isnt meeting at least half way after a while you loose intrest and move onto next project

True. Sometimes, you give all the help you can, but if the person doesn't accept the help, it's time to cut your losses and move on.

I don’t think the number of games Kakay played for us is evidence of a wonderful development system but more because Todd Kane was the disastrous alternative for much of it and I wonder what we paid him in wages as an ex Chelscum alumni. They clearly did brilliantly well with Eze and Chair but I’m not sure about Manning as he got so fed up he ended up leaving on a free. It’s hard to tell with Adamson as it’s very early days but one thing I would say is that he’s improved considerably since he’s been with us and didn’t look out of place in the first team. Not sure about Dieng either as didnt he have one of the worst stats in the Championship last season? Lumley did a job for us but was very shaky in the end and had to go. Kelman was managed pretty well as we got some money for him and I think he was pretty limited. I agree with the other poster that we’ve got better at releasing players that aren’t going to make it. Yes Harry Murphy was tidy but he’s not made it since and is now working in the City. As for Kolli I hope the situation resolves itself but I don’t think it’s all down to the club for all the reasons that have been laid out numerous times before. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

think with Kelman it was pure utter luck we exteneded his contract and he went out and had a stellar never to be repeated season , and we got good money for him , dont think thatsdown to the club handling him well it was just he was at the right team at the right time and we cashed in on him. with the injuries we have , Kone ,Burrell they prob wont have much choice but to stick kolli on the bench for the odd cameo at the end of the game until jan prob

Why is it pure luck when a player under this regime is sold for a profit?
| Rayan Kolli scores for development squad on 11:23 - Sep 30 with 701 views | Landshark | This has sent me down an Osman Kakay rabbit hole. Seems he's playing as a right midfielder in Slovakia now. From 8 games this season he has scored twice and assisted twice. His goal against As Trencin was very well taken. Sign him up. | | | |

That’s a bit heads I win tails you lose Wombat. We can’t claim it’s the club’s fault when things go wrong but it’s just luck when things go right.

Good for him. He wasn’t the greatest player ever, but he gave his all. I hope he’s appreciated there.

true but had kelman shown any sort of fomr in his previous years with the club let alone scoring the osrt of goals he did score that season ? sorry think we took a punt with his new deal for a year and struck very very lukcy , hes not pulled up any tress at charlton has he since he left us

Exactly. So we got rid of him at the right time for the right money. If we’d sold him and he’d been brilliant for Charlton don’t you think people would have said that we made a massive mistake selling him. That’s why it’s a no win. If luck is the only thing that counts then we’re unlucky when things go wrong too, right? Or are they only lucky when things go well but not unlucky when things go badly, so lose-lose.
| Rayan Kolli scores for development squad on 15:11 - Sep 30 with 341 views | kensalriser | Kelman scored 7 from 33 appearances for Charlton last year and I think quite a few of those apps weren't the full 90. That's a goal every 4.7 games. In contrast, Kone's 10 from 43 (most the full 90) is 4.3. OK, that's better and I'd rather have Kone, but it's hardly a quantum leap. | |

Only a QPR fan could complain that the club got a good price for a peripheral player not deemed good enough. What on earth is the problem?
