I think keeping players older than 21 kicking around at DS level when they have 0 or little professional apps isn't great for the players themselves.
Eze and Chair were probably at a similar age to Rayan is now when they went to Wycombe, although Rayan probably has more first team mins already?
If they are released young enough, like Eze was then there is still time to build a decent career
The club was/is desperate for homegrown talent to succeed and prove that investment in youth and the attached model.
This is why we played players like Kakay for so long, when he wasn't really at Championship level. |
Kakay was knocking off 28 Championship appearances in a QPR team that finished 9th when he was 21. He played 23 in his final season, leaving aged 25.
Kealey Adamson is 23, 24 in March, playing in the same position. How many games will he complete for QPR this season?
Neither are first team first or second choices. But Kakay completed 98 games for QPR, at a time when we financially had to blood youth (and he replaced Furlong, another homegrown). He was limited but will Adamson play as often or just drift away to the MLS? I suspect he will not contribute as often. And unlike Kakay, who came through every age group, Adamson cost around £200k, plus agent fees.
Let's not pretend anything has changed, really. QPR will always need a Kakay or Adamson in its squad.
LF, CR, PF etc produced from the Dev/U23s/whatever Championship players like Eze, Chair, Manning, Dieng and, yes, Lumley, Kakay, even Kelman. Kolli was built through the groups by PF, CR, AI, MH - all gone, all could've maybe made a difference now. Better crop than the previous decade. Still waiting to be matched now. |  | | |

I think the significant change I can see is that players like Harry Murphy, who was captain of the DS and I thought looked very tidy were released early than maybe they would have been in the previous regime.
When we are losing £2m a month the £200k for Adamson isn't a lot in the grand scheme. I think these player acquisitions are gambles, if they work great, if they don't then the club move on, its a ruthless business.
I think the club have a list of the graduates on the wall at the training ground, and there are lots of players who have come through and gone on to have good careers, just maybe not at QPR.
Hopefully the move to CAT1 means we won't lose prospects to Liverpool or Fulham anymore.
But, in order to do this we have to treat our current prospects well and show pathways.
If I'm a parent of a gifted young boy and the academy were courting them Id be concerned about whats happening with Kolli, as it looks like he is being mismanaged at the moment for whatever reason |  | | |
