On reflection, seeing it back a couple of times , god knows what he’s doing 😀. Ah well, let’s hope that’s out of his system now .

I thought Charles was slow moving his feet in reaction to the cross so ended up stretching for the ball making it very difficult to hold the ball on the way down.

Seeing some post on Chairs performance. Obviously about opinions and it was not his best outing, but I didn't think he stank. Overall in normal time we controlled the game bar the last 15 mins in trying to get an equaliser. Before that the goal gifted to them was there only effort on target.
IMO I thought Kone had a poor game. Burrell is not a winger, but I didn't see him sulking.
That Vale faded second half. Varane very good when he came on.
One thing that did irk me a little was when Dunne received the ball in the right back area he constantly turned back in and played it back to Charles. Several times he had a pass on but chose to recycle it back to Charles or Edwards.
Probably Kemper our best player. Kept Azeez quiet most of the time.

I noticed this too re Dunne. On one occasion he actually moved past an opponent creating some space in front of himself before turning back and laying it back to Charles. Also, did Dunne move to right back when Adamson came on for Mbengue and if so, why?

Was a weird game. Not quite a pre season game, not quite a league match.

Have seen Chair in pre season and was impressed with his link up play and quick movement of possession. Yesterday he held on to it too long and his set pieces were poor.

In terms of corners, free kicks etc, the order of preference would be,

1. Madsen
2. Vale
3. Chair

Chair does tend to pull rank which must wind the others up a tad.

I disagree with you, obviously (the only major trophy this great club has ever held - our competitions this season already reduced by one-third etc).

But I do concede that today felt a bit weird and unique - the sun shining, first game of the season at LR and yet the Ellerslie and Lower School End all but empty. Maybe this gave the players that pre-season feel, particularly first half. That won't be the case against Bolton.

Don't get me wrong, I like the novel idea of the League Cup on the Saturday, but it did feel strange. So I do get what Sints, yourself and others are saying.

Annoying and frustrating that I'm so frustrated tonight - but onto Fratton.

When we won it , it was a proper traditional cup competition . Both domestic cups have been so de valued by their organisers that I lost interest years ago , the latest being this Sat 3pm kick off time .
The league Cup is a floodlight competiotion apart from the Final (IMO)
It has been hawked around several failing sponsors (Littlewoods, Rumbelows etc) and now a high caffiene" rot your teeth "energy drink .
I could easily list 20 things that the FA has done to de value the oldest Cup competition in the world .
I never want to lose any game, especially a derby but the best thing about yesterday was no apparent new injuries (IMO)
Get promoted and keep our financial heads and we can improve the long term outlook for the club and maybe one day play in a European Trophy competion .

It seems ridiculous, bearing in mind the players kick a ball for hours on end, but I think we could use some specialist coaching here. Not for all the players but for the half dozen or so likely to take corners and free kicks. If we beat the first man then many of our crosses are floated in for the keepers to catch.

Gazza hit a superb dead ball, just above head height with pace, we really need to make more of these situations when the opportunity arises.
