Have been among those very unhappy with Bicycle Ben with his slow build into the season - combined with his dodgy stats and patronising manner - but fair play to him for apparently learning the lesson. We look as fit as I have seen us. Even JCS looking super strong and fit.

I thought there were quite a few positives today, with Adamson possibly being the most surprising one. He was good & bordering on being very good.
Kamara showed his class & I look forward to seeing him team up with Madsen. Who is responsible for Mbengue calming down? Take a bow whoever you are as he looks a better player to me.
Very welcome were the moves we put together for two of the goals & we came close to adding to them from our ability to pass.

It is always a good win away from home in the Championship despite Pompey being a very average side.
Some very good performances from quite a few of the players.
I thought Kamara was excellent when he came on, plays it simple, good availability, good passes, sees dangerous situations very quickly, works well ......very decent player indeed. Will be a starter very soon once fully fit or should be!! Shout for Adamson as well, did OK today.
Players like Morgan, Lacheche, Kolli need to be sold, they are not good enough any more and questionably ever was good enough, just had a couple of decent games.

Well Done QPR - an excellent win - early doors I felt it was going to be like Swansea away on Boxing Day 2024 (we lost 3-0)
Anyway a magical 12 minutes before half time and the game was set.
So many areas we can improve upon and a rare feat to win at Portsmouth so well done to all. Great support from the west london massive.

Think I’ll call that a work in progress before I have a lie down in a darkened room.
Bloody awful, really good, good, more good, and plenty of sucking air as the ball careered around our goal.
A lot to like overall though. And shout out to Adamson who didn’t put a foot wrong.
3-1 up I do like a bit of Alfie Lloyd. Especially when the balls having a little bounce and neither he nor the defender have the slightest clue who’s going to do what next.

They came at us like a train. Not a second on the ball. They were very positive going forward and we struggled to contain them or even gain possession for more than a couple of passes. They lacked some quality either with the final ball or getting on the end of crosses.
Then we started to move the ball quicker and breaking from defence especially through Mbengue which changed the game.

First 25 or so they dominated completely and we really lacked steel in midfield.
But as soon as we started hitting them on the break Pompey suddenly looked quite average and we grew in confidence.
We don’t know why Madsen was unavailable and it seemed at best a very brave decision to start without Varane. Personally, knowing Fraton Park is a bit of a bear pit I would have tried to start with more ball winners and try to win the battle.
But what do I know? We ended the half with 3 goals and Stéphan will I guess say he always believed our quality would start to flower. [Post edited 15 Aug 17:51]

First 25 was polo mint formation, with a big hole in the middle.
I’ll be having nightmares tonight on the basis JS might decide to stick with this set up for the duration.

We shall celebrate this win but let's not get carried away as Portsmouth were poor. They scored a worldie but didn't cause us too many problems after that, we caused ourselves a few problems!
As the Scots guy kept saying on Sky this was a professional performance. We shall play a fair few Portsmouth's this season and we need to be consistent.
A few negatives, the slow starts to each half, the injuries to Boy and Koki. Would have liked one of our second half attacks to have produced a fourth goal.
The positives, how long have you got? A great team performance, all the subs did well, I mean well, Illias made it over to the right side of the pitch several times, JCS lasted the whole game. We could go on and on and on.
Our quiet pre season optimism received a further boost today.
Of course the acid test will still be if LBlock now believes we could swerve relegation.

Also players like Pearman going to Olly for the season which will bring him on Eze and Chair style

I'm sure others will disagree, but it looked very much like a 4-1-4-1 to me. A slight difference to pre season was that Chair seemed a little further forward
What changed? We started to have some possession & used the ball well, but I couldn't say why they stopped & we started. Perhaps 30 minutes was the most they could play at that tempo.
We had 4 or 5 good/very good moves & I was very pleased to see us stroking the ball about on the ground. After we equalised, I didn't feel that they would score until Murphy arrived on the pitch. For 20 minutes he gave us problems , but didn't have the end product. Thankfully! | | | |

I think he's been playing a 4 2 3 1 the whole time, with Vale as the more attacking MF ( possibly an 8 but I'm not sure what an 8 is anymore), and today Edwards was the deep lying DM.
One of the problems seemed to be that Edwards isn't.so familiar with that role - he looked like a clunkier Geoff Cameron at first, so he was a bit slower and a bit deeper than you'd want, and Vale is still learning that other position, so yeah it was a polo for a while.

Just need to back it up against Bolton who beat Preston 2-1 today.
This is a good test to see if we are serious or not (to have a good season - playoffs or higher).
