Was a very successful woman especially fronting "Thats Life" in the 70s when women either worked in the typing pool, or were looking after the children.
Remember my dad didnt think much of her at the time. Think he was threatened by the fact she was a successful woman of her day.
Great work on Child Line.
Did see her once as a kid when saw a play at the London Palladium. She was sitting in front of us.
I remember watching the episode where she highlighted Nicholas Winton's amazing work with the kindertrains. It was an incredible watch as only 'That's Life' could do.

I've watched that episode a few times over the years (it's on the internet somewhere, though I can't find it right now). It's an incredible story, and beautifully done by Rantzen and her team.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam uasal. RIP.
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
Living in Ireland back in the day . The music for the Irish drama , The Riordans or later Glenroe signalled the end of the weekend at 8 clock . Depressing, however Esther and her merry crew provided the lift needed before double maths on a Monday morning. Great woman and sad her support of assisted dying bill didn’t go through.

Sad but lived her best life.

That could be true about your dad's thoughts - I think she was so ubiquitous she probably didn't get the respect she deserved at that time, looking back. Different times though.
A pretty remarkable woman - even trying to make a difference at the end.
RIP Esther.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

I met my brother and my sisters for a drink last night and we were talking about Esther Rantzen. While Childline was a great resource, we were remembering all the things that our kids had threatened to call to denounce us for over the years. My brother, who is a primary school teacher, says that there is a higher power at work now: a Year 4 boy he wouldn’t allow out at playtime because he had hit a girl in class was going to report him to the Ofsted inspectors.

By and large Ofsted do a pretty good job as does their other organization that oversees kids' songs. What's it called…..oh yeah, Ofsteddy bears picnic. Groan.
