| Dembele 08:17 - Oct 1 with 2870 views | EalingHoop81 | There is a really interesting piece in the Athletic on him for anyone who has a subscription. Talks about his incredible potential that had him up there with Bellingham and Musiala in the England youth teams and the challenges of trying to find his potential. | | | | |
| Dembele on 08:29 - Oct 1 with 2797 views | MrSheen | Didn’t Celtic get permission for him to play in their Under 18s when he was 13, or something? Imagine how diddy he was then. | | | |
| Dembele on 09:26 - Oct 1 with 2606 views | Lblock | Is this the England youth teams that engaged in the sport of Hide n Seek? Apart from his debut against Plymouth (?), and maybe a half against a woeful Leicester team, he's done the square root of f'all for me. Looks like another utter waste of money at this moment in time. | |

With a lot of young talented players their biggest problems are confidence, belief and picking up a succession of injuries. If you look at clips of him as a kid he's got everything, speed, trickery, footwork and a football brain. Certainly a player that would never be destined to play here. We've seen flashes of it but it's been regularly interrupted with fairly dreadful injuries. So my feeling is that if we can get the kid fit and injury free, and gaining a bit of confidence, even if he ever only shows half of his childhood potential that he'll be an asset to us. But it does depend on his belief in himself and his body not to keep breaking down. We're seeing a little bit of that with Kone and his knee.

Problem is even if they're all playing well, I don't think you can be competitive in the Championship with many little guys. Chair, Lamptey and Smyth do ok but Saito and Dembele struggle with the physicality. Having too many small players on the pitch makes you weaker at set pieces, especially as one of our taller players, Madsen takes most of them. Jimmy is the only other really big player that we've got; opponents concentrate on trying to stop him and we are usually left hoping that Ronnie, JCS etc are out smarting and out jumping taller markers. As frustrating as it is I think this is one reason why we have Chair taking a lot of the corners instead of Madsen
| Dembele on 12:31 - Oct 1 with 2203 views | LazyFan | He's had the worst injury one can have even though he is only 23, but hits 24 this season. He has the skill, but his best position in my view is a 10 and not a winger. On the wing he has ahead of him Vale, Smyth and, of course, Poku. As 10, Chair, Kone and possibly Madsen are ahead of him. He does not play right wing, where Saito and sometimes Chair or Smyth are ahead of him again. Therefore, when he returns, he's really gonna have to start delivering from the subs bench to then get into the team. He has the skill, not only in dribbling or crossing but also in through balls and shooting. But now, there are no more off games; he has to deliver, or he's out. What Saito has taught us is that we can get just the same average elsewhere, and that's not gonna be good enough. Smyth has upped his game with 6 goals last season and two already this one, and at 29. So, there are no excuses for the rest of them. You can improve, but you have to stay at it. The squad has improved, so there are no more free rides, and we have too many wingers. Dembele will have to deliver once he's fit enough to play, or we should get rid. | |

I think you can have small players out wide which is where he plays. You only need 4 tall players if you do zonal marking at corners. Two tall CB's, a CDM and a CF and Mbengue and Kemper at full backs and you should be able to cope with any aerial threat.

Disgraceful. I was so angry I had to leave the ground. Compare his attitude to Lloyd or Adamson. I know which one I'd want on my team.

feel sorry for him with the inuury but gut feeling is we would have looked to move him this summer if he hadnt been injured his lack of work rate being the main issue of his.

Yeah I'm not a fan either unfortunately. Has the right attributes to do well, but picks and chooses when he wants to perform. If his not for his bad injury I'd have sold him on ages ago.

He's got a lot to work on no doubt, but he does have a lot of quality too. Combined quite naturally with Illy for those 28 minutes they were both fit. I could see him doing similar with some of that squad now.

Yep certainly not given up on him myself either. The first game i saw him play for the first 20 minutes he was exceptional. That was his peak. Like a lot of our players, he is a confidence player. Think Kone, Vale, Saito, Madsen and Varane you could put in this category also. All have the potential but the consistency is varied. He does have to step up to get consistent game time and his ceiling could be a lot higher than seen so far. Am hoping rather than expecting but he could achieve more. Fingers crossed, for sure. He's desperate, frustrated, and he shows in his play. Hurried shots, pointless runs into dead ends. Too often he's inside his head instead of his body. Typical was a fairly recent free kick on the edge of the oppo's box (forgotten who it was.) Madsen was set to take it when Dembele charged past him and blasted it ten feet over the bar. He's playing on his nerves. You just can't do that at this level.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I just don't think he has the right mentality.

| Dembele on 08:53 - Oct 2 with 612 views | TK1 | Some mad stuff on this thread. He’s 23! Almost exactly the same age as Lloyd and Adamson, players viewed at the start of their journey, desperately trying to find their feet at this level. But because they run round with their tongues out we don't dismiss their clear limitations. We need to give him the same chances and space, surely. To dismiss a 23 year-old like this, wow. Stan Bowles didn't sign for QPR until he was older, didn't start really performing until he was 25/26. Roy Wegerle was 26 when he hit his purple patch with us having had one good season at Luton at 25. Flair, real flair, takes time to find its way. That's QPR, not Dean Coney/Alfie Lloyd. Dembele has an ACl, a catastrophic injury, and not his first, but should he recover his level and potential is so much higher than either of those, and Smyth or Saito, so it is incumbent on the club surely to get him where he should be by 25 for us or the market. | | | |

some good points but he had had more first team experience than some of the players mentioned , reg starter as well hopeuflly he does turn it round when fully fit as the glimps he has shown look like he could be a player esp in a more central role .

| Dembele on 09:27 - Oct 2 with 541 views | stevec | Don’t think any player ever played better after an ACL and he’s had two of them. He might benefit from the fact that a year on, he will return to find he’s got a better set of players behind him. I’d stick him in the middle of the three attacking midfielders, wides been a bit of a non event for him. He could be a revelation in that role. If he can’t produce there then move him on. | | | |
| Dembele on 10:52 - Oct 2 with 388 views | Lblock | Sorry....... this is his second ACL? I didn't realise and explains his hiding and refusal to tackle, track back etc in his time here. If it is his second then he's more than likely finished at this level, especially if it's the same leg and if he's putting his faith in the QPR medical staff then he may as well take the insurance payout now. | |

| Dembele on 11:57 - Oct 2 with 305 views | EalingHoop81 | Some of the responses on this thread have really surprised me. Dembele was essentially up there with Bellingham and Musiala at all age groups and was almost always the stand out player. To put that into perspective he was something very close to Sterling, same sort of size and style too. He was playing at well above his age group and smashing it. He’s then had a couple of set backs before joining us at 21. He’s got his entire career ahead of him, but all his peers are playing Champions League football. I’m not surprised that he may be struggling with that given he’s been talked about in the same breath as Ronaldo and Mbappe since he was 13. The point raised above was he’s playing on his nerves….I actually think he’s just trying to do too much when he has the ball to prove himself and is then making poor choices. If it starts to click, those choices will improve and he will get better and better. But, he’s 23 not 33. He’s had a nasty injury and will need to be brought back in carefully and supported. I think this is his first ACL. He broke his ankle previously…. | | | |
| Dembele on 12:28 - Oct 2 with 209 views | DavieQPR | Out with fractured ankle 214 days, knee surgery 114 days, ACL ongoing. You can throw in Coronavirus 18 days as well. All since 21/22 season. [Post edited 2 Oct 12:31]
