I was quite close to that side and couldn't work out why he was going so mental - coke or no coke. It was quite extraordinary. And highly amusing. I was encouraged by the first half display but overall there was a creeping inevitability about it. I don't generally have ago at our own players, but I can't see what Varane adds to the team. He needs too many touches and gives possession away too frequently, too easily. Whenever the Varane song gets an airing I feel genuinely embarrassed.

'Picking up so many injuries you run out of subs and finish with ten is a rare, once-a-season sort of event usually. For this present iteration of QPR it’s now a weekly occurrence. A long way from “sensational”, this is becoming absolute amateur hour.' sums it up, and is spot on.

I know many don't like it but the only way to get a yellow card in the championship is to roll around and scream especially away from home. Limited options aside, not moving Ronnie into midfield and A N Other at CB was a major error

I grew up near the border of Galway and often played Gaelic football against some of thier county man . Hard as f**king nails to a man . Sadly not Manning. A bit like that other cheating little t**t Seanie McGuire who was along the same lines . He had the excuse of turning out for Preston knob end. Not sure what Manning’s is. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It’s also costing us tangibly with us conceding goals against Derby and Saints when down to ten men. Very lucky Charles was on top form vs West Ham else that would have been the same fate as well. It’s a big big problem

| After The Lord Mayor’s Show – Report on 20:25 - Nov 1 with 2055 views | daveB | Thought we did well first half but the final ball was lacking and the second goal felt crucial, if we could keep it at 1-0 till late we had a chance but once they scored it we fella part really. Kone's goal was good but fair result in the end. I found Varanes performance a concern in midfield and Vale has been poor for a few weeks now. The Lloyd injury was so annoying, another one who comes back and breaks down injured again, happens far too often. Also the headloss man was incredible, what was he so angry about, he was trying to fight everyone, nutcase. | | | |
| After The Lord Mayor’s Show – Report on 21:52 - Nov 1 with 1760 views | ManinBlack | As with the Birmingham game we conceded the second ten minutes into the second half and we were done. Perhaps I am in a minority of one here, but I really couldn't understand the fourth goal. We are down to ten, approaching the 95th minute, we have lost the game so I expected us with a man short to park the bus and keep the score respectable. Basically we lost the ball in their half and one pass through the middle and they have a clear run towards our goal to get a fourth. What happened to the defence, it appeared most of our team was in their half. Why? We did similar at Brum for their third goal. 2-0 and 3-1 looked better than 3-0 and 4-1. I don't see the point in committing men forward in stoppage time while two goals down. Haven't they heard of damage limitation? I am still miffed that Bolton went there and kept a clean sheet and Pompey only let one in during their last two home games while they wiped the floor with us. We are such a soft touch at times and so erratic. I hope we won't be so soft against Burnley as we were on their previous two visits. | | | |

I agree with this 100%, it’s a psychological thing to ‘only’ lose by two, but also could be important from a GD perspective too When the play-off places went to 6th place, the last spot often gets decided by GD, so I expect it to be very tight with 8th place up for grabs. That’s why the late, late goal conceded v Derby irked me too. Cheers Clive, I always hate the idea of being beaten by a ‘better team’ - very Rednapp-esque - but no denying we were out-played in the second half.

My biggest annoyance, as most will know, has been the CM, and while it is better, it's so thinly stretched. Take Madsen out and the backup is poor; I'm still surprised Varane was not moved on in the summer to free up some money to bring someone in who can control and pass a ball with two touches. I'd like to see Vale back in the CM where he was at the beginning of the season, but injuries to Saito and Chair have stopped that. Bit of a theme. Still, if we can get two home wins this week, we are right back in the mix. Fingers crossed.

| After The Lord Mayor’s Show – Report on 08:58 - Nov 2 with 816 views | thehat | Great summary Clive - I was also in that away end at The Dell all those years ago (Dennis Bailey Hallelujah). You would think we would be battle hardened to it all now. Whilst I fully understand keeping the same side from last weekend and perhaps with a little hindsight do we now think again when going away from home to good sides on big pitches and just stodge the midfield for 70 minutes to stay in the game and then decide if we want to stick or twist? Bolton went to St Mary’s a couple of weeks ago and did just that and left with a very credible point. I was also left scratching my head on our subs. It was never really a game for Saito and bringing a very tubby Chair into central midfield for the last ten minutes to stem the bleeding was very puzzling. Also was Lloyd fully warmed up and prepared to come on. I wasn’t there so can not comment but I think we need to make sure all the subs are warm and fully stretched before coming on. The half time break is crucial for this, the subs need to be on the pitch getting ready for action instead of just passing the ball and doing flicks and tricks. Anyway two big home games now to get back on track. | | | |

Regarding 'warming-up'.......half time is just a few minutes to move around and keep warm for the subs. Knock a few balls around. Unless they have been told that they are entering the field of play and then they should go through a full warm up session, probably with the trainers. There is no point in doing a full warm up exercises then go and sit down for 10/15/20 minutes. The players, who are professional footballers, should know if they have warmed up & done loosening exercises, they have a responsibility to ensure that they are ready.
| After The Lord Mayor’s Show – Report on 09:58 - Nov 2 with 624 views | terryb | Thanks Clive, I was watching a stream that was so bad that I gave up with it at half time. From what I could see, it did look as if we played quite well in the first half, but we always looked vulnerable to the counter attack. In that respect, it is well known that Southampton repeatedly attack down their left, but we chose(?) to let Adamson defend that area without any help given to him. Poku (to me the worst player on the pitch in the first half), Kamara, Varane & Dunne offered zero support. Having said that, Southampton & Middlesbrough look far better sides than anyone else in the division & ultimately they made their class tell | | | |

Really? I think Vale is great as an attacking player or out wide but the defensive side is not his strong point; and I definitely wouldn't play him as a CM in a tough away game.

It feels like Stéphan is trying to complete a jigsaw puzzle, but the pieces keep being hidden from him. Occasionally he has all the pieces available at the same time, and we get Swansea. Most of the time, though, he's 3 or 4 away from the full picture.

I don't know what it is with Vale at the moment, clearly a man out of form, but last season there were times when he was throwing himself into 50/50s, tracking back well and getting through a solid amount of defensive work in the midfield. Clearly that wasn't the case on Saturday, but don't think that's representative. Rocks and diamonds player, who has been a fair bit more rocks of late.
| After The Lord Mayor’s Show – Report on 12:45 - Nov 2 with 150 views | Jeff | there was something really off about Vale's positioning on Saturday, and i can't work out if it's player or Manager's fault. Vale was ostensibilty the left winger, but he spent the overwhelming majority of his 60 minutes so inverted that he basically played as a 10 - he was rarely, if ever, ahead of Kemper, which meant that we had absolutely no width down that side to speak of. we then brought on Saito, who is about as close to an old fashioned chalk on boots touchline winger as we have, and he occupied exactly the same '10' role, and was even more innefective than Vale was. which makes me think that was by design as opposed to player decision, but if that is the design, why not bring Chair on instead, who's made his whole career being the left winger in the 10? | |
