Whatever failings the man has, and hitting a woman is very high on my despicable list, to say he was completely overrated as a player, is nonsensical. One of the best left -wingers in the world at his pomp (and scored a fair few with his right foot too)
Be critical of his misdemeanours by all means, but don't ignore the facts or we all end up straying into the realms of the (hopefully ex-President) Trump world of fake news.

Brilliant player in his day, and scored a pretty decent goal at Loftus Road I remember - they won 3-2 I think.

IN terms of the Connery thing it's unacceptable but it's worth looking at the 3 part BBC series on the Ripper and the attitudes of the time, across the board to get an idea of the Connery quote in closer context.

Not connecting the YR and Connery directly but if you do watch it it gives an idea of shocking opinions across the board in the days of Stan and co doing there thing at Loftus Road in those days to give it a time frame QPR context.
