On the other hand, I find their whinging about how they are treated by the Police and Football authorities annoying because if you're going to set yourself up to be different from everyone else you'll be treated differently too.

I bet their 'f**k you' isn't even real. It's all a put-on for a few hours on a Saturday while the rest of the week they're getting it in the earhole from the missus. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Lovely as ever on 20:24 - Aug 3 with 4181 views | joe90 | I live in a 'Millwall' area and all the fans I've met have been really nice. That said there is something unusually local about the club that you just don't get with other London clubs. I know there's a perception that a lot of them travel in from Kent, but there's still loads of them around Bermondsey, Deptford, Lewisham, Eltham etc. I think the fact the fans have more notoriety than the team perpetuates their image. Without the fans they'd be a completely charcheterless club like Palace and Charlton. | | | |

Grew up a 20 minute walk from The Den and have had some great days/nights with friends at their matches. Do they deserve some of the reputation they have? Absolutely. They have some right idiots who follow them and they are accepted far too easily and without question for my liking. But there is no doubt that they are harshly judged by people who don't know the full circumstances behind the headlines or, if we're being honest, because they are the most white working class fanbase in London. Some examples: * When other communities came together to tackle the rioters in 2011 they were all praised by the media but the Millwall fans in Eltham were deemed racist by the Guardian who also said they'd only gone out not to protect their area but because an opportunity to attack Black people had presented itself. * Growing up in the area leaves you with no doubt that it is incredibly patriotic and as they sat watching rioters deface War memorials last year it was obvious that once back in stadiums they would passionately boo the gesture they had - rightly or wrongly - decided was synonymous with the riots. It was booed throughout the country but did the double-barrelled, privately educated 'liberals' make a point of naming and shaming other clubs or listening to what Millwall fans were saying...? * The 'Luton' footage is regularly brought out to use as a stick to beat them with despite being over 35 years ago and despite, also it is forgotten, in a season where football violence was at its nadir in this country. In the same season our fans rioted at Portman Road and there was footage but do we get subjected to it on multiple occasions throughout the years? I could go on to false allegations of racism by opposition black players at The Den which are, despite the presence of top end surveillance equipment and a open desire by the club to ban people who carry out such actions, never proved (and always seem to come from players on losing sides too). However, if you want to know what Millwall are up against this should leave you shocked.. http://www.millwall-history.org.uk/Press_Coverage5.htm They have idiots but are also up against some idiots who simply don't like people from the background most Millwall fans are from. I see that you are trying to add balance there, and I'm sure that there are decent fans amongst them. Probably on their own or away from the rest of the mug squad they seem to congregate in when they come together. I can just call on personal experience of seeing them at HQ a few times and that is that they are just a bunch of sad C un tz who really should have grown up a bit by now. Generally they are one of very few clubs that and genuinely despise.

Had a decent job and everything but we fell out when he started posting he hoped Holloway died of cancer. Strange breed

Agree with a lot of that but one thing to consider is that the reputation encourages idiots of other clubs to act up against them and Millwall fans come from an area where if someone confronts you you don't take a backwards step. Take a look on Saturday at the corner of the Ellersie and School end how antagonist some of our fans become. To them it's banter but to a lot of Millwall fans it's not and it's a challenge... Not condoning their reaction but if you antagonise them they will react.

I care more about them thinking it’s acceptable in this day and age that it’s ok to act like idiots wherever they go. It seemed normal in the 70’s to get off the supporters train at some distant city and start singing about Rangers, and maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner, but most normal people grew up and left it all behind years ago.A lot of their fans haven’t,and they are the ones who sometimes spoil it for the decent fans. They are the ones who stop ordinary fans from going to games,or taking their children,or grandchildren for fear of getting caught up in trouble. Sure,we have some idiots too,as does every other club, but they have a few more than other clubs. Going to a match these days doesn’t have to be a journey back in time to when most games were like it,and it’s about time some of their moronic fans realised it. [Post edited 3 Aug 2021 22:11]

Genuinely interested in what you didn't like about someone presenting an alternative take to a much marginalised fanbase especially when it contained an acknowledgement that they do attract idiots.

A lot of these muppets start hostilities as soon as they get together,so they don’t even wait until they get in the ground. You see them get off the train mob handed at Shepherds Bush or White city on Saturday, and you can see that it isn’t about a challenge from opposing fans.

Haven't been to a QPR away game in years - last one was Fulham in 2018 - but can't believe that in that sort space of time we have stopped singing QPR songs en route to matches, when arriving in towns/cities and outside pubs... If we have we are unique in the Football League...
