the limit is: "80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood or 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath"

The article seems to be mixing them up as one refers to blood and the other, micrograms, breath.

"The keeper’s blood alcohol level was 45 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres…"

Did they pull him over on the hard shoulder 😉

I am totally baffled by the coating off of Archer here. He never did anything wrong for us and his last act was saving a penalty that put us into the next round of the cup. Deserves a lot more respect than he is getting here.

Who's coating him off?

I don't mind being the first though. I don't think it's acceptable for a pro footballer to be caning the booze to that extent.

How would you be able to see your phone from behind the wheel of your car anyway?

I am not a drinker but isnt 35mg 2 pints therefore this could have been 2 pints but a bit stronger. Hardly someone out getting totally wasted!

Its not a great article, I first read it as he was in the car but not driving (looking for his phone) but then says pulled over.

Deserves respect for drink driving.

Hopefully he'll learn his lesson from this. Stupid and potentially dangerous mistake, but as others have said, not something to bash him over the head with. I am sure the club will take appropriate action and he'll be an UBER customer for the foreseeable future.

Never knowingly right.

I've always been an advocate of zero tolerance to drinking then driving.

All the time you have people saying "I can manage xxxx" for a whole list of supposed reasons it becomes very grey as to what is deemed safe and what is not.

If the law is zero then there's no margin for error. Zero is zero. Get a cab, especially fkin' rich footballers.

Allegedly he's on 3 grand a week. Pretty nice for sitting on the bench

'...He had downed two bottles of beer, four vodka Red Bulls and two tequila shots before taking an Uber home...'

A strange choice of drinks.

Have to admit I sort of admire him for managing to keep that lot down. I wouldn't be able to get drunk on that combo as my stomach would convert it to a technicolour yawn before the alcohol had a chance to reach my bloodstream.

There are 2 units in 1 pint of circa 4% beer. If you’re drinking
Any of the 5% stuff, then you’d be way over on a pint. The likes of a bottle of becks, Stella etc usually say there are 1.7 units in a 330ml bottle and a pint is over 560ml. I used to play football
With a fella who swore 2 pints of kronenburg (5%) was absolutely fine, wouldn’t have any of my advice. The gobshite drove a fire engine for a living….

Sorry but the phone story seems like a ruse dreamt up by a very good (i.e. expensive) lawyer and used in mitigation.

Drink-driving - like walking down the middle of the road with a loaded gun, firing indiscriminately.

Idiot. If you are having a drink, leave the car at home.
