1pm kick offs? 16:39 - Sep 16 with 9897 viewsHayesender

If this were to happen, they'd have to give me a refund on my season ticket as I don't finish work until 1 on a Saturday

Where's this come from?

1pm kick offs? on 16:56 - Sep 16 with 5358 viewsLanhoop

Think it was proposed to reduce energy use, floodlights etc.

Here's an idea.... stop paying footballers stupidly insane money and maybe, just maybe, everything else can be afforded.

and everyone gets home 2 hours early in the winter using 2 more hours of electricity, gas etc etc etc than they would if they were out at the footy.

60,000,000 people are going to use 60,000,000 people's worth of 'resource' .

Yes same as me. 1pm on a Saturday for home games is basically the only slot in the football timetable that I can’t do, because of work.

I expect to lose 1 or 2 games because of TV but if it’s the whole winter I would expect compensation.

I did think when they were talking about energy bills this winter, and no cap for business, that it's not going to be feasible for teams at like Wingate and Finchley's level, or even League 1/2 level, to be playing midweek games with floodlights on etc.

Anyone know what the costs of lighting a game are (or might be)?

From what I can gather from the little we’ve been told. The situation for businesses is that because there is no price cap there is no mechanism for the government to implement the price freeze. They are apparently looking at ways to make it work though.

Even then it will only be in place for 6 months. In the mean-time the government will look at targeting support towards sectors of the economy that they feel are most important to them. These sectors only will be given support going forward. Not sure where lower tier football would fit into that.

I'd imagine the energy bills landing on Mr Hoos desk are pretty substantial. Not just floodlights but also the undersoil heating must consume a lot, then there's those lights at the Loftus Road entrance that they wheel in to help the grass go and all the rest of the stadium facilities. I'd hope any new stadium design plan had a solar farm on the stand roof.

Totally agree.

Rather like the head of my company being paid 400x more than me.

To put that in context I would have to have been working every year since 1622 on my salary (which is good and I have no complaints about) to equal what he received this year and it is down from last year when it was a mere 640x more than mine.

Why don't they just not put the clocks back the hour. Farmers don't need the extra hour in the morning anymore.

Midday kick offs have a terrible atmosphere and we seem to lose quite a few matches when we KO at midday. It’s a No from me.

I don't expect this to happen in the EFL or The Premier League, but clubs from the National League & below might need to do this.

They would have to play midweek games under lights though.

Maybe we should dim the lights, oh hold on..

Somebody told me long ago you'd be surprised how cheap it is. Next to nothing basically. Pence. I said this to Lee Hoos once off mic and I thought he was going to have an asthma attack. So it's somewhere inbetween there.

I’ve said for years that we should adopt the same time zone as europe. This would no doubt be an energy saver as during the height of the summer when it gets light at 4am most people are still asleep so this is wasted daylight. Then if it doesn’t start getting dark until 10.30 then the even lighter evenings, and warmer will encourage more people to spend the evenings outdoors thus saving energy and also one hour less lights on before going to bed. Evidently it was trialed in the early 70’s but scrapped because of Scottish farmers.

Never really understood the farmers bit. If your work relies on natural daylight, you work when nature dictates. What the clock says is irrelevant.

GMT is the yearly average that the sun is overhead at Greenwich ( hence the use of Mean). Also technically it is a time zone. The sun doesn't go an hour back or forward. In other words don't worry.

And how many farmers do you still see in the fields in the summer months when it’s dark?Driving an HGV at night means that you can see loads of farmers working in pitch black, with just their headlights on at 2-3am most nights at this time of the year.

Well last year it was only about £6 as they only had 4 bulbs working.
Might be a bit more this year.
